Honestly, I was surprised by how positive their response to the Corolla was.
I had been worried that it was going to be another case of Toyota talking big about being more dynamic/enthusiast-focused, and then falling short on the delivery.

Seems like they've actually hit the mark (for the most part)

Agreed. I was half expecting them to shit on the car. But Todd seemed to actually like it and defend it. Then again he gave the FR-S a try and now he drives a Elise. So he's open to the slower yet nimbleness of a car.

Hopefully, they clean up the CVT stop sale and recall quickly. It a shame to see the most popular model of an entirely new, well-received car stumble out of the gate.

I was under the impression Toyota had been on point with their driving dynamic improvements with every car on the TNGA platform.

With obvious bias still towards comfort.

Their XSE camry is much the same. and actually the RC350 of late too

It's not.. proper sports car per se. but it does drive really well and give you the comforts and is focused on sales and not the niche....

you want a niche car buy an FRS> comes with nothing but a manual and rwd.

(i miss hillstart assist and keyless entry)

Im excited for the new corolla but i have a feeling it wont sell as well as the sedan and less so in manual...

Respectable debut for Corolla Hatch in ultra competitive BTCC today at Brands Hatch Indy circuit.

Top 10 Quali, two out of three Top 10 finishes, driver Tom Ingram and Toyota in the Top 10 car and driver points.

I came around and decided to buy a brand new 2019 Corolla hatchback to replace my 2nd car. Should be arriving this week and I'll post back with some pictures and more info as I drive around more with it.

You are correct, it's a 6 speed manual transmission. Medium/long feeling throw (at least compared to my FRS. It doesn't feel quite as locked into gear as the FRS either. However This cars transmission is far more forgiving than the FRS, so even not so smooth shifts feel "pretty smooth". It has some fancy IMT rev matching assist button you can toggle on and off. It is geared toward making it more easy to learn to drive stick. I personally find it bothersome while drive as it randomly hangs revs and just doesn't always act as I expect, so I keep it off. Shifting in the car feels well sorted, I really like throwing through gears in this thing.

I've heard the manual is quite nice from the reviews I've seen. The rev hang is probably emissions related since the WRX and even the new Civic have it as well. The new corollas are pretty slick imo so it's cool you got one! Someone where I work has one with the fancy wing and it looks so slick.

Thanks man, yeah it only has the rev hang when you have the IMT button pushed. I opted as well to get the factory bigger 2nd wing, in my opinion the car needs it stylistically.
