p.s. There is no reason to spend $2000 on a flex fuel kit and tune. Especially if you already have an OFT. If you need help, let me know. I can get you a fuel analyzer and tell you everything you need for the most bang for your buck.

Where's this $150 flexfuel kit?

I could. If the user is fine with flashing the ECU every time they change fuel types that is fine. I didn't carry around an ethanol tester, however. Once I spent the money on the flex fuel kit/ethanol content analyzer going the rest of the way to a flex fuel tune wasn't that much.

What do you know, it is May when we should have class 1 E85 in AR. Its still class 3 here. 66% ethanol (as measured by the ECA) instead of the 80%+ it should be. Its a safer decision to let the map adjust based on ethanol content rather than switch maps due to time of year and hope for the best. Hopefully this clears up why I never advanced timing for more than E60 before.

Regarding timing advance. I'll be adding a turbo in the next 12 months. E60 vs E85 timing matters with boost.

I had the OFT but never ran E85 as at the time I had no access to it. @MYKey and @mrpikachufrs both use the OFT with the E85 tune. I’ve driven one before and personally I found the custom flexfuel tune to be significantly superior both in throttle response and power delivery.

There isn't one...

It's called ability and ingenuity....

I bought a flex sensor and fuel lines on ebay for $89...

Then I bought an arduino nano and display for $12, and $6 respectively. Then I coded said arduino to convert the frequency output of the flex sensor to voltage output and ethanol content percentage display, I got a visconti pnp harness for $45 also on ebay and I got the flex tune from Shiv.

I offered to give anyone who wanted my fuel content code. I am also willing to send programmed and soldered/shrink wrapped(requires a couple of resistors) and boxed arduinos with instruction on how to wire them up to the car for $90 bucks...

Jaden

p.s. even if you were to buy everything brand new, it shouldn't cost much over $200... and you could do it for as little as a hundred with the right deals and going directly into your own harness...

Definitely some ingenuity there, mad props my friend!

Although enticing, I will spend the money for peace of mind rather than saving the money! Thank you for the write up, a great find for the DIY’r!

YOU ARE THE MAN! This was exactly the answer I was looking for! I have run Shiv’a custom 93 tune and his OTS tune.... the custom tune is night and day better!
