What even are "classic sports car" tail lights? Frequently they were literally taken from another much more mundane vehicle.

Some GT40 tails came from Corvair (and in Europe some from Simca)
McLaren F1 tails came from a fricking BUS!

Good link on sports cars with *literally* borrowed tail lights:

For me, as long as the basic car looks good and the tails aren't actively hideous, I'm fine. '22 tails are at least specific to the car, and they do look better than '13-'16...

Many cars are built by borrowing parts from other cars to save money. The Saleen looked ok, if you didn't know where the taillights came from, does it really matter? As long it looks good on the car. Anyway this is what the designer and the car company agreed upon as in the new BRZ. Like them or not this is what you get.
But what about the modern Ferrari taillights of the F8, 812, and SF90 to name a few? Plus all the previous Ferraris with similar taillights from years past. You don't like Ferrari styling? I'd rather have something like the taillights of these Ferraris'.

Yeah, that's precisely my point. So what if BRZ tails did come from a sedan, as long as they look good in this context.

Quad tails is certainly not just a Ferrari thing... They usually look fine, and I wouldn't mind them on the FT86. A bit cliche but yeah, could look cool...

Not a huge fan of modern Ferraris from a styling standpoint. Roma looks pretty OK but then that body-color painted grill kills it... Their other cars have gotten busy busy busy with their designs, and not in a good way.
Just went to their website and it SUCKS! Just want to look at pics of their cars but it's dominated by full-screen videos with terrible "camera moving around" technique that some talentless hacks thought was cool about 20 years ago!

Just my opinion, but I wish they’d gone with a stylish evolution of the gen 1 tails. Something instantly recognizable as a BRZ, but elongated and more fluid maybe. I don’t know I can see it in my head. For me it’s not that the tail lights are terrible, just totally different, and it would have been cool to see an evolutionary design.

I kinda like the kitsch appeal of a couple of simple round taillights. Good enough for a 90s supercar, good enough for the twins! Funny thing, simple shapes tend to age better, and round lights are a timeless shape. You can modernise them with the specific LED light signature, whilst retaining the classic round shape.

In any case, the new BRZ tails are OK. Not memorable or great looking, but not ugly either. They’re just lights.

A sports car should be memorable and evoke emotions when you look at it.
These tails are perfectly "meh" - which is great if I'm looking at a sedan.

I checked and was surprised to discover the tail lights weren’t from an RC F.

I've come around on the styling. But I would say that the rear end is the most disappointing part. Very generic.

I can live with the new look. It's a smoother kind of beauty.

It's what's under the sheetmetal that counts, right?

Yes, and no. The external design matters. If it drove like an 86 but looked like a Pontiac Aztec would you buy it?

Just registering here...as much as I prefer the old tail lights, seeing some of the up-close videos has me convinced it's going to look pretty nice in person.
