Ok, I hear this a lot these days.

Personally, I hate the F*ck out of OEM ECU's. From a tuner's perspective, there's nothing good about them.

All emissions testing is done via OBDII... I think it would be much easier to build an inspection-passing box, and then use whatever hardware and software you want.

The guys from Wolfsburg got away with it for years. Too soon?

Ref checks under the hoods and sees a huge single turbo 2jz, "but the obd scan checks out, you're good to go!"

I'm not saying from a performance standpoint it's best. Once I have the ref sticker at least I can sell it later without the " it's modified it won't even pass smog it's not even legal" bullshit statement I always hear. And I can drop in the LS454 aftermarket ECU change valve covers make it look like a ls3, and cops can't say shit, because it's "legal". But I'm definitely with you on the GM ECU not being the ideal choice. But for obtaining my goal of "legality" it the easiest way. They pop hoods and scan the obdll port out here if it didn't come with the motor that was in it it has to be refed by the state ref.

Yeah my Wolfsburg joke was a VW reference. Like "just cheat on the damn inspection" reference.

Sigh.

I know. Those guys at VW are good. Maybe the could tune my ecu so I can get the best of both worlds. Power on the street and track. low emissions at the smog station.

I'm not sure how intricate the VW method was but its really rather simple.

if(traction_control_off && diagnostic_connection_attached){
superSecretEmissionsBypass();
}else{
mpgPlease();
}

They probably used a bunch of other sensors in the vehicle like accelerometer etc. to determine if the vehicle was really moving or stationary on rollers.

This would've been impossible in the future anyway as states like Virginia are now rolling out roadside emission check stations where all you do is drive by them and they determine if your vehicle is emissions compliant or not. I think I'm good with vehicles but don't even ask me how they do it . Edit: From what I can tell you just drive really slow and they have fans that suck in your tailpipe emissions and analyzes them. Readiness monitors aren't enough anymore

PM me if you can the price of the unit. Also could you elaborate on what functions your car has back that you had lost from the swap, and the possible other functions that could be brought back if you chose to. Thank you for any info you could provide in advance

Mike is giving me the unit for free,.....not sure what he is going to charge for it......but im sure its tons cheaper than a standalone......he will have to speak as far as pricing and when he plans to debut it.......he is building a monster LS3 super charged wide body BRZ.........which will have every thing working on his car.....he isnt on this forum as far as i know , frankly he doesnt have the time for it is my guess......nothing on it is Vorshlag.....pretty sure he hand fabricated everything himself.....its going to be insane.

@cf6mech]Is this still the AGT unit or another manufacturer? Are you running the GM ECU and a translator with the fa20 ecu completely removed from the equation?

Right now im going with the AGT unit.....with the GM E40 PCM and the OEM ECU......the translator gives the ECU the necessary language from the PCM......not pretending to know exactly how this works......but that is my understanding.

Thank you for sharing this info. once it is in let us know how it functions. I'm basically waiting on your results before I start selling everything I wont need in my engine compartment, and start buying the new components. Are you happy with the engine placement your swap has and the components Vorshlag provided you with. Im kinda waiting on them but if no updates are released I may need to source the components elsewhere.

Extremely happy with the results.....have not had a single issue with any of the components from Vorshlag..... sans the headers they supply and ground clearance if your car is lowered like mine...... being they are long tube the collectors are way back and low...... im eventually going to have to fix this myself....already have something in mind that will allow me to keep my OEM sway bar position...(as you may know this was never resolved) and is what I should of went with and actually asked for in the first place...but some people in the build process remembered only things they wanted too...... Ill lose maybe 20 hp from the headers but i doubt i will even notice the difference...... something to think about if your buying their kit components..... GROUND CLEARANCE.... Oval exhaust tubing is your friend.......by the time your ready there will be multiple can-bus solutions.
