Best shift feel of any Toyota ever. Only other trans I have ever felt that was this good was the S2000. S2000 may have even been a leeeetle bit better than this one, but as far as I am concerned, Toyota and Subaru knocked this TL70 manual trans out of the ballpark.

I'm in the same boat as you, coming from S2k. I think we're screwed for life, comparing anything we drive to what's been described as the best trans ever made.
I sat in one today and moved through the gears, couldn't talk my way into a drive of someone else's preorder though. Not moving the throws, clicks, and sounds reminded me a lot of the S2k. Sure hope the trans lives up, I drove a WRX a while back hoping to buy one...a couple shifts of the gearbox and I knew I couldn't own that car after having the S2k. |

My 540I with the 6 speed manual and M3 short shifter feels like driving an 18 wheeler compared to the BRZ. And I always rather enjoyed the 540I too...until now.

I think it's good, but not as good as a itr or a rsx type s. The throws are shorter, but the gear shifts aren't as smooth.

I've done a good bit of city driving today and I feel like I'm starting to get used to the FR-S clutch. It's not bad, I'm getting the engagement points and I feel like it's not unlike the Si was. I don't need nearly as much to get rolling but sometimes I baby it and stall out attempting to avoid the 2k rpm launches.

To me, the Miata (NA or NB chassis) has the best and most mechanical shifter ever designed... the FR-S is a very close second. I equate this shift quality to BMW because it is well damped yet still slightly mechanical, with throws that are probably 30% longer than a Miata. (My NA 100% stock Miata has a 2" throw between 1st and 2nd for instance... more like a rifle bolt)
