I think they use the language they use in order to allow for non-OE factory replacements, such as rubber Autozone or Rock Auto ones. This is probably more relevant for older cars where stock stuff may be expensive or hard to find.
Material doesn't really just mean rubber. The implication is durometer too. If you use harder rubber, that's very easily protestable if someone knew.

Correct. There's a lot of misleading language in the rules that says "don't do this" - that doesn't mean you're allowed to do it a different way. Thanks to the standard parts catchall, if it doesn't say you can do it then you can't.

Rules like this were added in the days before the standard parts language was added.

Also worth pointing out is if you lose a protest, you're paying for labor to extract whatever part is getting protested plus any costs of testing it.

I will take pics and get measurements this weekend at the Pro, right now they are in the back of Kao's truck.

I am not going to the tour, but if you know someone going to NJ tour maybe they can pick them up?

This thread looks rather handy.

I know I don't have my FR-S yet, but you can get an idea what I've done with a GTI from the links in my sig...

I'll be posting regularly (after I read some more) on any updates I've made to the car. I look forward to comparisons and discussions about this subject.

I have to say, I'm most pleased that I don't have to drop the subframe to replace the sway bar. That damn near killed me on the GTI. I can't understand why VW did things the way they did, but that's all water under the bridge now that I'm back in a RWD Japanese sports-type car.

Cheers!

My codriver and I ordered 245/40/17 RS3 Version 2's and they came last night. Too bad we won't be able to test them until May.

245 RS3s on a 7" wheel? Brave men. I felt there was too much flex on my 215 lol

Hope this ver2 works better. They just did not change direction well

Yup, 245 on a 7" wheel. We figured we'd give it a shot. If you want to talk about tire flexing, try 225/50/16 Rivals. We ran that a few events near the end of last year. It was a bad idea, lol.

I've never ran an RS3 before, but from what I understand, the only difference between the original RS3 and the RS3 Version 2 is compound. Everything else is supposed to be the same. The sidewalls are definitely softer than a Z2, as expected.

There are a couple names I recognize and know they are on here but I can't think of their usernames. John Ryan I know is on here and Michael Potocki I'm pretty sure on here. Too bad the RX-8 took the win in both CS and STX, although it was pretty close in both classes.
