^ Cool, thanks. automatic's WRB had 225s on 8s and I've seen those up close, so at least I have a comparison now. I have a set of 225/45 Star Specs and 17x8s at my disposal but I don't know if I want to go that route or get a set of stock sized rims so I can stay SCCA stock class legal (in case I ever do regionals or go down to the US).

yeah, that's been my dilema

do i stay with 225's on OEM sized rims and take a shot at next years's C-Stock/RTR whatever those classes will be finalized at

or go balls out on the wheel/tires and do PITL and Time Attack

cuz STX would require a whole other level of prep to be competetive.

It was a fun turn out yesterday ^^. I'm probably going to head to the last PITL event of the year as well.

Ash,

for someone that said they never did autocross or through the car could "drive like that" you've had quite a handle on the car and did some nice controlled drifts.

No all courses are different most of the time can't really benchmark against other events. Best way to know if you are improving is to see how you are doing in comparison to the faster cars. Did you manage that 63 on your last run?

yea i did. umb_fr-s. that was with 3 corners heavvy understeering into them, then on the long straight cross over i shifted second hard and the back steped out and i lifted i think if i had 2 more runs i could have gotten a low 62.500

^ Were you #19 with the towel or something sticking out of the trunk? I was the guy (with the burger in hand, lol) asking you about the "thing" sticking out of your trunk. I agree with 7th, you had really good control, especially for a noob.

As for your time, you have to compare yourself to someone in the same or relatively similar car, preferably driven by an experienced/seasoned driver. Each course will be different, so you have to look at your times and how far off you are. When I first started, there were competitors that I would base my times after, and as the years went on, I would get closer and closer to eventually equaling and then beating them. It's to the point now in the last few years, I've become the hunted instead of the hunter, and not by just other FWD guys, lol.

ya looks like one guy was saying he got a 61. somthing wich is a pretty good time. your 63 is very good considering the way your first few runs were. if you keep it up you'll be at the top of the heap in no time. when you can consistently run 1.5-2 seconds behind a good driver with cheater tires i would say that would be the best time to get new tires as you will learn to feel the car more if you keep slipping a bit. keep in mind to all new RWD drivers the gas is NOT a ON/OFF switch. you need to feather the throttle and ease on and off depending on grip. feeling how much throttle input you can use will keep you straight!

Oh and on a side not! i am also no expert haha i autocrossed in a genesis coupe 4 times the summer of 2009 and just started again this year. I have been competing in ottawa and have 7 events under my belt here. i just put my new tires on the car as i was trying to chase some other drivers here that had better tires and i just couldn't make up the last little bit of time. so dont rush into putting mods on the car! wait till you learn then start modding!
