I've never treated a car any different, whether it was my 200k+ mile truck or this car. I wash them, clean them, keep them up mechanically and I let people flog them as hard as they can. At the end of the day, it's a replaceable object, and so there's no reason I cannot share the fun with others. Would I be mad if someone wrecked my car? Yea, I'd probably be miffed, but I wouldn't care if there were a few scratches etc.

It's apart of building the relationship with the car.

To me I understand that its more than a car. Its more like an extra limb , but I'm not anal about scratches and dings because I know it can always be repaired eventually . I know its not a m3,911 etc but it is my sports car and I do abuse it the way it was built to be abused from time to time , but at the same time I'm not constantly dogging it . I guess I fall into a weird portion of the car where I understand its just a car but it means more than that to me .

Its not just a car, its an expression of me and who I am, however I know it will never be perfect unless I leave it in storage in a vacuum sealed bag for the rest of time, but then how would I ever enjoy it?

I dissagree 100% I treat all of the items i own with care. I parked my 96 Tacoma in the furthest parking spot and it had over 263,000 miles on it. Something does not have to be a "super" car or overly expensive to treat it well. It has to do with personal pride for what you have.

One Sunday morning, about a month ago, I rotated the tires on the car I maintained for 14 years, a '91 Eclipse with 240K miles. Monday morning, I parked it at the dealership, said "goodbye" and drove to work in my FR-S.

Doesn't matter if it's a car, or a lawnmower, or a blender, any machine by itself is always just a machine. Some machines are lucky enough to find owners that make them special. That's the magic.

Oh, and when I got to work, I gleefully handed the keys to anyone that wanted to take it for a spin - anyone that could drive a stick.

I'm with you. I openly offer my friends (who know how to drive stick) to drive it - I figure the more people we can infect with this "enjoy driving" madness, the better.

So far I've directly gotten 2 people to buy manual cars (and indirectly, a third).

I think I stopped obsessing about how flawless my BRZ looked when I got my first stone chip on the bumper and windscreen - then when I found an unexplained chip on my rear bumper. You can't control these random events, so don't stress about it and just enjoy it.

Still flawless because chips and dings aren't flaws. They're charact...

...oh hell, I HATE trying to be mature about it.

It will never be "just a car" to me. The FR-S is the first car I've owned to fulfill so completely my expectations. A true pleasure to drive. Scratches, chips and dings have nothing to do with.
