My new audio system and a blog that the installer did on my car
Feel free to ask questions, my installer did a pretty good detail of the install and listed a ton of info.

Bet that hits pretty good! Thanks for the pic of the back of the head unit. I was 99% positive there were RCA outputs for a sub, but hadn't taken mine out to check yet. Glad to know they are there.

Yeah the sub hits hard but the speakers are the best part. Theyre hertz dline speakers and they're great. If anyone needs sizes of the stock speakers I have all of them out right now

Every systems different. I was just about 2 grand. But he has great in dash navs and all those fancy touchscreens. My cousins Sti and my friends mustang all got those headunits from him and they're plenty happy with it

Hi, I had a look at the blog and am now thinking that I should probably upgrade more than just the head unit.
While I am not a weight weenie, I do want to make sure that the car isn't made THAT much heavier, and that space is not compromised. I would also like to keep the stock speaker config or its appearance, as far as is possible, so that the car doesn't look too odd. Obviously I wouldn't be using your installers (I will probably use Encrust Customs). However, do you have any observations as to what would give you the most bang for space/weight? I think a sub - even their setup - would be out of the question for me as I don't want to sacrifice boot space or practicality. And where did they install the amps? Forgive me if these are silly questions - I'm a car audio (and generally an audio) n00b, although I would like to think that I know what I like. |

Well upgraded speakers alone will give you good bass as to what you want. At most those subs added maybe 100 pounds. So I'm not really worried about that weight factor.
Yeah it did suck to lose all that trunk in this car, but you're not going to get a good sub and not lose the trunk. My amps are loaded onto the back of the seats hidden behind the box. My folding seats still have full functionality. The problem with the cars setup though is that the big speaker in the door is just a really bad sub woofer and aftermarket companies don't make a subwoofer that would work there, so what my installer did was eliminate the mid range speaker in the dash and rewire that to work in the door and put the new midrange in the door. That is the only way you will achieve good sound. The view from outside the car will look completely the same but if you want to try and achieve the setup to be the same it just can't happen.

Thanks, that's very useful indeed. Didn't know that the speakers were that bad, and I note what you say about the main one in the door being just bad. I will have to see what ideas my installer here in HK has, and if we can do anything without having to install a sub. Maybe we can put a sub where the spare tyre is, or even in the middle of it. That would be interesting!

Yeah I was thinking of doing that myself but the installer put that idea down pretty quick not sure why though haha
