Yes, exactly what I'm talking about. This is my first tinted car but my wife's outback had tints from the dealer (not sure if factory or dealer installed) and doesn't have this same effect.

Hmm maybe it has to do with the % of tint? I would think maybe this effect is more noticeable with a darker tint. I just thought it had something to do with the way the tint film refracts light and makes bright lights less intense?

My tint guy explains that its because the defrosters are thick, causing bubbles/gaps to form between the tint and the glass during application (basically, he couldn't squeegy the tint flat enough for complete contact), which then causes the refraction. I don't notice it during the day, but at night, specially on the freeway, where there's lots of headlights shinning behind me, it could get quite distracting. Nothing serious i guess, just wondering if I should ask for my money back or have him do something about it

Yeah. His work is great, though, so there's that.

Honestly I disliked the month-in-advance reservation more

I call it BS. Although my rear windshield tint has the same effect as yours (light refraction on the defroster lines), the same guy that did mine also did a fellow forum member's on an earlier date (summer time), and I went to check his out, his tints came out better with way less air around the defroster lines than mine.

So they agreed to re-do mine around summer time (I did mine back in October, was kinda chilly around here).
