i find sale person need more charisma than knowledge about their product.

if you have a good feeling about the sale person, you are more willing to buy what that person want to sell to you.

Bottom line - Salespeople are paid to sell, no matter what. It is and has always been about manipulation.

I'm the hostile guy at the dealership. I try really hard to be open-minded but it's game over after the first sniff of bullshit. I have never had a positive, honest experience with any dealer because each and every time, some sales guy, a service manager, someone has had the audacity to try talking shit to me.

I guess it's just the way of the world. The big money is in selling stuff. People who make stuff or fix stuff are a completely different breed.

Haha. Thanks.

Funny enough, we have a sister store in Eugene and Bend, Oregon. So, I guess I can technically sell you one there. I actually got mine from Eugene and brought it up here. But that's enough shameless plug from me. haha

No offense to those who sell cars for a living, but out of my high school class it was the D students or drop outs, who ended up selling cars as a career. And most of them knew nothing about cars, or math, or science, or... well, you get the point.

As for those who say they wouldn't buy a car w/o driving it first... that's a good general rule, but rules are made to be broken. I never drove my SS before I put my money down; I never even got to see it in person before I signed the paperwork. With every dealer in town marking up the Camaro $5k+ over MSRP (back in 2009), once I found a dealer that wasn't going to rip me off, they got my business. I did take a ride in a Camaro SS prior to buying, but hadn't been behind the wheel. What I had done was my due-diligence, and researched the vehicle very thoroughly (we live in the internet age). So when I picked up my Camaro, it was fresh off the truck with 3 miles on the odometer... I drove away ear-to-ear, and have been ever since.

I'm pretty sure my wife was ready to make the FRS purchase w/o driving, but in this case we could test drive, so we did. I would always recommend taking a test drive first, but there is more due-diligence needed than just driving the car... you need to do all of it before spending your hard earned money!

I'm surprised that no one's asked this: But do you look anything close to Peter Lau? I mean he has a pretty damn distinct look for an Asian dude.

Like going to a car meet where somebody told you "just look for the young Asian guy with the white FRS, that will be me"? Get there, take one look around and think "shit I can't ask all these guys". Stoped after a few wrong guesses and weird looks. Pretty sure they thought I was just some crazy old guy that wandered in by mistake.

Guess there are a lot of fools in the world.

FTR I bought my C7 Vette without a test drive. I went on a ride along with a friend who had one and read reviews.
Dealerships dont offer test drives on Vettes, at least none where I live.
Everyone I know has had the complete opposite experience - If you are actually a serious buyer, almost every high end dealership will let you test drive...

Every single person I know except for one with a high end sports car was able to drive it before buying it with no problems. Even Ferrari will gladly allow you to test drive any of their used cars that they would sell you. Coworkers who owned a Cayman S, two 911's, an M5, sl55 AMG, F430, and an old NSX all drove their cars before buying them. The only person I know who was refused a test drive and bought it anyway was a friend who bought a 2nd gen Viper GTS while in college and only 22.

If a dealer has a car on the lot that you are serious about buying and they don't let you test drive while you can still back out, why would you buy it? If they aren't willing to eat the cost of 20 or 30 miles, you really think they are going to be scrupulous when it comes to things like service and warranty work?

When it comes to regular luxury cars like BMW or Land Rover - a lot of dealerships will even let you take the car for several days if you are a customer - free of charge or any obligation to buy it.

It's one thing to buy a car on a waiting list that's brand new because you want it first, but if there is a car sitting in the lot that you are set on buying, and they don't let you drive it before making the final decision, why would you do business with them?
