additional gauges

Hopefully this fits in this category.

Has anyone fitted additional gauges such as an actual oil press and water temperature gauge? I do not trust stock idiot gauges with warning lights. All too often by the time the needles move one way or the other it is already too late. I can remember all to well with the bummers that by the time the temp light or oil light came on, the light was just indicating that your motor blew...

I am not interested in a-pillar pods since hey just look so tunerish. Has anyone taken out the stock head unit and mounted a single DIN unit and used the extra space for gauges?

The problem with aftermarket headunits is that they aren't the right width. You'd end up needing to use a filler surround plate that makes the center of the dash look ugly. But it's your car. If you wanted to do it, I don't see why not? The space is a normal double DIN height...

What about gauge cluster pods? There's at least one out there that includes space for 2 gauges (1 on either side of the gauge cluster) and there's also those all in one units like P3cars.

Defi makes a triple gauge that is single DIN sized. There is a newer model out in Japan but it was only for RHD vehicles when I checked a few months ago.

Prime Motoring makes a cluster pod. They can also make a double pod if you want to relocate your odometer buttons.

There is also a guy on the Mazda forums who makes defroster vent pods for our cars.

Does @PrimeMotoring still make the Cluster pods? Didn’t see any info on their website.

I’m in the process of installing a Block8head double pod in the dash vent.
It will house Innovate oil pressure/temp & water temp/ voltage gauges.
I like the look and visibility of this location and look forward to being aware of engine status. Cannot yet comment on functionality or long term satisfaction. Maybe I’ll get off this chair and finish the install today.
