Japanese license plate - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I was thinking about putting a Japanese license plate on my Frs but is there any restrictions on having it? Because I heard you don't really need to have a license place in the front since most cars I see on the road usually like gmcs and other cars don't have it either, I live in California.

VEHICLE CODE SECTION 5200-5206

5200. (a) When two license plates are issued by the department for use upon a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear.

since you live in socal, you will need a front plate. CHP and local police will bother the shit out of you. especially la quinta police if you drive through that city on 111 or fred waring. motorcycle police like camping out there and busting people to write tickets for everything

It's illegal in the state of california to have a different license plate than what was issued to you on your car. With that being said you must also have a front license plate on at all times. California is even one of those states that has specific heigh and distance requirements for your license plates.
