Probably down to more rear roll stiffness bias than most rwd cars have. Most who track S2ks bias roll stiffness more to the front (and usually run much wider front tires).
I was replying to someone with an AP1, but in you have the rest of it and I agree. Square tire S2K

The CR was my failback plan if I didn't like the BRZ so I'm not really that anti-S2K.

When I really think about why I don't care about my S2K it comes down to communication (especially steering), it being somewhat annoying to own in Florida (heat/humidity/no mountains) and the S2K tax It's a great car, it just wasn't great enough after a few years of that Honda AC trying to keep up with the heat, the "Honda stole me from Lexus but made me uber responsive and precise" EPS, etc.

A hardtop likely would have fixed the AC issue I guess.

Oh also most track days here required a roll bar, and I was against cutting up a brand new car to do so. Same reason I haven't drilled a single hole in metal in the BRZ, I just don't like doing so until it's older.

At least there's fast S2K drivers here

I do wish our AZ6 based transmissions felt like the S2K AZ6 based unit

I do agree about the inability to take the s2k to the track in stock form. Unless you are in Cali, where the safety requirement is very lax, you really need to cut up the s2k. The 86 can be tracked & autocrossed in stock form, which is by far the most appealing attribute of 86. Unfortunately, it's mutually exclusive with the s2k. You either have a track, autox, or a street s2k (atleast here in the Northeast).

Or the better option would be to move to Cali & enjoy top down on PCH. I like this idea the most.

Perrin Rear shifter bushing and Motul tranny oil helped to make it feel similar to my S2000 tranny

I have that bushing and the perrin mount spacer thing sitting in the garage, just haven't bothered to install them yet.

I'm running Torco, might try the Motul next. Motul is in the diff already.

On the S2k to STI scale, it's 85% of the way to STI in terms of feel...

Same in the SE. I couldn't even drive it at events I ran because we require the broomstick rule, etc.

I don't think I want to move to Cali (weather is great - too many hard parkers though lol) but a road trip to drive the PCH is on my bucketlist. Mike's CR might get stolen for a week or two.. just gotta follow him home from the track Don't worry I'll return it with a full tank.

Now that's hateful lol

It's not super close to the S2K, but the STI has one of the worse shifters around. VWs are worse I guess.. Porsche 944s are way worse. Any T5/T56 car is way worse too but not as bad as the 944

When I had my S2K that's exactly what I did.

I originally wanted the S2000 to come in a coupe, but ended up loving taking down the convertible top.

Maybe in a few years if I don't buy a Miata, I'll restore an old S2000.
