STi to BRZ? Who Else Made The Switch?

Howzit going fellas, I currently own a 2004 Subaru STi. Simply modded, mint condition, & daily driven.... I've been drooling over the BRZ since it was just a rumor, and after seeing them in person, I fell in love with it. Well, the whole point of this tread is to ask, did anybody out there went from a STi to a BRZ, or for that matter, a higher HP car to a BRZ? I'm just trying to convince myself is it worth selling my STi? I would love to have both, but that wouldn't be realistic for me. So in my case, it would be one or the other. Thanks for the input fellas!!

I've read a few comparisons from former STi owners. The question, really, is do you want a heavy and powerful awd car or a light and agile, moderately powered rwd car?

Have you driven an S2000 or a miata or something light before?

I had a stage 2 wrx. The BRZ has better torque characteristics for normal driving with the agility and response of a miata.

I prefer agility and handling over power.

I have a 2012 WRX and while I thought about trading it for a BRZ, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. It's so much of a bang for buck car. Not to mention it's a perfect all around-er.

Less than $1,000 in parts and I went from 230ish whp and trq to nearly 300whp and 330trq. On the BRZ and FRS, you hardly get 15whp that money. Sure power isn't everything but there is no denying the car needs a bit more, that or cost less-which is why I talked myself out of it.

Only way the wrx will go is if the BRZ STI comes out and it has the extra bits it should have. Otherwise, I'm shooting for the next gen M3.

If I were in your boat, I would keep the STI and wait for the brz sti to come along. If that car has the same or similar extras the sti has over the normal wrx, it would be so much better

Its like comparing the hulk to spiderman.

Each one is awesome at what they do, but they do it differently.

That superhero analogy is pretty spot on. I went from a 2008 STI to my current FR-S. The STI was a blast in foul weather but since my FR-S isn't my daily, it isn't a big deal to me. I did some datalogging on my kid brother's Alpha 6+ GTR last night, and while you do feel like a superhero while driving it, I still prefer my FR-S because of the great drivers feedback. Although after doing full throttle pulls in a tuned up GTR, i'm starting to feel like boosting the twins wouldn't be such a terrible idea!

I went from a 06 WRX to a 370Z which handles amazing but I never liked the torque delivery. I like real world power instead of this "track only" performance.
til this day I regret selling my WRX now I drive a GTI which is obviously not faster than the 370z but it DOES feel faster. I'll take butt dyno over real dyno ANY DAY!

I had 3 Imprezas, WRX 02, STi 03, STi 09, and now a BRZ

Impreza turbo STi, lot of power & torque, ton of traction, but "fat", low steering feeling and she drives

BRZ, less power & torque, rwd, but light, perfect steering and you drive

The best choice? BRZ STi...

if you like the BRZ, buy it, have fun and rwd experience and then trade in (when available) for a BRZ STi

Why buy a car with the intent of just trading it in within a year anyways. That's financially a stupid decision.

Just wait and get the one you want the first time. Do it once and do it right

I had my '04 STi for over 7 years and loved every minute of it. The car did everything that I asked of it without failure.

I now have a '13 BRZ Limited and am loving every minute of it. The car is doing everything that I am asking of it.

If you know the two cars and their respective similarities/differences you will be pleased with your decision.
