I had an RE SX10 in my Eunos for a while, had 1kw going into it. probably could have doubled that and it would have been fine, it was plenty loud enough.
the single 12in OZ sub i had in was even better, esp with 5kw going into it

Dont just go jump on in and buy what ever.. do some reserch.
otherwise you end up buying crap, going back and buying more crap.
buy right the first time.
I reckon I am buying pretty right with Jl audio
But Fuddbutter, you are saying you think a "woofer" isn't needed? Just a sub 10"?

Exactly.
Hertz EV130, Focal 13ks, Focal WS are a few 5inch subs. But I personally would never buy one since they are just not big enough to do the job properly.
@yomchi1989: Usually, woofers are included in a component set. Eg: 3-way component speakers would contain a tweeter, a mid-range speaker and a woofer.
I'd have to agree with Z86, JB HiFi are not known for their expertise. I would suggest Lifestyle Store or Ryda (in Sydney). I prefer Lifestyle store because their service is much better imo. But with these kinds of things, you get what you pay for.

Its all about surface area. Put in enough 6.5's and you will get all the bass you want. (if they fit in your car)

No you wont..

Going by that logic, if you put in enough tweeters you will get the bass you want...

its not that simple, the 6.5 cannot physicly play that low, go look at some speaker plots and look at the roll off at the low end.

aight..

you need speakers to cover all the frequency’s that are in music.

forget this woofer term, it confuses people

A typical 2 way + Sub setup
Tweeter - plays the highs
Midbass - plays the middle bits (vocals, most stuff)
Sub - plays the bottom end.

Those three speakers will do most people, you can go to 3 way splits + sub.
then you end up with a Midrange speaker which plays between the tweeter and midbass.
Generally a 3 way split system cost more (it's an extra pair of speakers) and are a hell of a lot harder to setup.

2 way split + sub is the hands down best way to go, esp if you are just getting into car audio and don’t have a lot of experience/money/experience.

JL are not to bad, they make great amp's, Subs... they are ok.. speakers i haven't had much to do with.
But DO NOT buy on brand name... it is up there with the stupidest things people can do. Go and LISTEN.. if you buy speakers that sound crap to you, you are the one that has to put up with them every time you drive...

And you are better off getting it right the first time, i have spent more on car audio than my BRZ cost me..

I listened to these speakers I bought, and they were very good. I have them as component in the front, and getting the rears taken out. So you suggest just throw in a sub in the boot will be best solution for a n00b?

Well, if you want more bass, then yes
but you will need another amp to run it, plus power wires, RCA's etc.

I think only a 10" will fit in the boot.
You think a better sub than a JL Audio? What would you recommend? I listen to a lot of rock and screamo lol.
Kicker?
