Ferrari built a 1.5L V12 in the late-40s, that made 227hp with a supercharger. Think of what we could do with 70 years of innovation to build off!

After hearing that engine, I’d be game.

Unfortunately emissions killed off all that creativity. F1 cars in the 80's had a 1.5 turbo that was making 1500 hp at least.

Let's not forget that they would need to reduce the cost of the engine by something like 99.08% to make it commercially viable.

Get outta here with your logic! We have no room for that.

Actually I am shocked at how cheap a set of tires is.

When I was a child, I remember, schools gone to 1 week holiday due to air pollution in my town. Emission restrictions killed all the fun!

you don't need to go to f1 for that. Lotus still cannot make an engine that is economically viable even when they try.

And how many decades ago was that. There is a huge difference between realistic emissions and laws that make even the automakers choose to cheat. When large multinational companies choose to ignore the laws something is very wrong.

He is in Turkey. I have no clue what their laws are there but doubt they were world class as far as environmental controls went even as little as 10 years ago.

If you like the Ferrari then you'll love the B.R.M. V-16 from the same period. Claimed to pump out about 600 h.p. at 12k r.p.m. it has a scream that must be heard to be believed.

I have a signed copy of Nick Mason's book Into the Red which has an audio CD with his all the cars from the book. His B.R.M. V-16 can be heard screaming all around Silverstone, from the pits!

I'm 43. It was about 30 years ago. I don't know much about the laws, but I do remember the way cars used to smoke.

Automakers choose to cheat because it's easier than a real solution, and they can make more money (until they're caught). It's the great fallacy of an industry self-policing. Money today is always worth more than money later, and if they get caught it's (hopefully) someone else's problem.

Looks like a PA license plate on the left there. Truck doesn't look that old; probably punking the other car by "Rolling Coal."

An A$$hat did that to me a couple of years ago. Had some monstrous PU with the exhaust going up both sides of the cab like he was a Semi Tractor. He hit the switch and heavy black smoke started pouring out and I touched the buttons and sealed up. Never got a whiff, and saluted him with one finger as he passed me in the opposite direction.
