But instead of normal hatches if they only offered the hot ones I wouldn't see this as a big business risk. I'm only wondering as I am not into marketing and sales.

But when I was visiting the usa I could imagine myself in a v8 mustang or camaro driving on endless wide highway through the desert.
But back home these cars just look so big in comparison. Germany is different though. They have twisties and unrestricted autobahn so you can get any car you like.

I grew up around wrc (groupe B at the time) and formula 1 and thats the reason I like small hatches as they flew by with speed and agility.

American cars always looked badass but never delivered in our envirement untill recently. New stuff looks promising (mustang, c8, camaro).

The only thing I noticed during my stay in the states is that EVERYBODY drives a mustang and it would be refreshing to see a tuned cupra driving around. Like it is refreshing to see dodge challenger roaring underneath the alps here.

I would say that they would sell great if offered.
Internet commenters are an extreme minority.

Go to a generic car forum or comments section and ask how many would love a back to basics sports car, then ask how many have bought an frs brz 86 or miata new in the last few years.

It's sad to me that today a "small" hot hatch is still a 3200 lb car. Cars are so bloated and fat, and the Europeans are just as guilty as anyone else (if not more, with the EU's ridiculous crash regulations).

Heaviest car I've ever owned was my Golf Sportswagen TDI. And that was a wagon still keeping weight right at 3200 lb. Otherwise all my cars have been (and remain to this day) in the 2600-3000 lb range. (Cayman is right at the limit, with a full tank of gas she's been weighed at 3023 lb haha).

Yeah, why can't more people die in car crashes, like the good old days?

Civics and Corollas are around the 2900 lb mark these days, FRS/BRZs passed crash testing with high marks at 2750 lbs and easily get down to 2600 without sacrificing safety.

Light and safe are not mutually exclusive.

Weight is directly correlated with real world safety. The tests are only so useful. The heavier the car, the safer the car, on average, in a big way.

But when every car is heavier, then it doesn't make a difference.

Just how like everyone buys an SUV to see over cars ahead of them. It doesn't work anymore when everyone drives an SUV...

Heavier cars are still safer in multi-car accidents.
A lot of accidents are single-vehicle, hitting a tree, for instance. Again, weight improves safety in these accidents.

But yes, if everybody drives a barge, then in multi-car accidents, we're all equal.
