We need to write thank you letters to Subaru and Toyota for building this car. Yes, I am still in the honeymoon phase.

There's a guy on this forum who wishes he bought a Si... Perhaps OP should look him up...

My wife has a 2018 civic sport hatch, which i have to drive her around in...Its like driving a crosstrek turbo is the best way to describe it. I'd take my brz anyday over the new gen civic, even IF it does feel faster accelerating...but that's pretty much its only strong point.

Honda hasn't made a decent Civic since EG.

I would trade in the 2018 Civic to rid of its headunit / HVAC controls alone.

86/BRZ is supposed to be an attempt at nostalgic reminiscence of the Japanese Bubble Era.

oh god, I hate that damn headunit!!! And the seats are horrible too, they might have every adjustment electrified but I haven't found any that are anywhere near as comfy as the brz. maybe lumbar support would be nice...

it's exactly why i bought mine. all the benefits of an original ae86/240 without the disasters that accompany a 20 year old car most popularly bought to be heavily modded before being ditched onto someone else.

The headunit in the 2017 BRZ is actually worse lol. The Bluetooth takes at least a minute to connect to my phone.

To anyone with the 17 and up model years, I don't know if its the revised gearing, but the dip is not as bad as most people make it out to be. Yes, you do feel that the vehicle does not pull as much in the dip, but it's not that bad if your're in the right gear. The BRZ actually feels like it has more low end torque than the Si does between 2k-3k. I was surprised because I don't really have to downshift to pass someone on the highway.

it is slow to connect, but its easier to use. In the manual, the brz feels really peppy, the AT, the dip is horrible...unless its 50degrees or less outside...then its livable. hahaha

i havent really had an issue with the torque dip, i usually drive around the 3 to 5k range on the highway. but i mean if you wanna drive the car then you have no business being below 5k

Coming from a 2012 VW GLI, I really like the low end power delivery on the BRZ. It's early, predictable, and very easy to DD. The GLI would produce a huge surge of torque around 2.5k+ due to the turbo lag. It was thrilling at first but was kind of annoying in DD scenarios. Throttle seemed to map so that if you held steady at about 30% throttle, torque would be linear. Anything above that would trigger the surge.

I don't mind the dip. I barely feel it if I mash the pedal all the way through 2nd. After that, any further acceleration is done above the dip. Maybe it'll show up in autocross but I'll probably be too overwhelmed to dwell on it.

I actually love the gearing for highway cruising. You're still below the dip and can accelerate without lugging the engine.

I agree. The gearing puts you in the peak of the torque for the lower rev range. In first and second gear, the dip is not really felt as much because your in and out of it fairly quickly. However, if your in 3rd or higher, you will feel it and it can put you in a situation where you may want to accelerate quicker and rev match downshifting into second isn't always the smoothest.
