Put down your pitchfork. He actually said something positive. He didn't say ladies would buy it because it's cute. The OP insinuated that, then he said not quite. He didn't turn "randome people" into ladies like the OP did. He said some of those buyers will enjoy the car. Some of those purchasers will in fact be women.

I think you owe him an apology for knee jerking that reaction of yours. It was in no way negative.

Pretty sure if he's really 16 and has one, his parents bought it for him, and since they've already exercised considerably poor judgement, they will probably insure it for him as well.

thats a bit demeaning to say that because they bought him (which we dont even know if they did), that they have exercised poor judgement. Scions are make great cars for first time drivers! in fact, isn't that what the brand is supposed to stand for.

In my first post that i worte, i wasnt implying it was Women only that would say its a Good looking car and just buy it. That phrase can go both ways. However "Cute" comment is more towards ladies. By no means is this thread singling out one Sex.

Phone quoted wrong person. Meant to quote genome tuning.

I would back you up but.... I grew up with a lot of kids whose parents bought them way too much car for 16. Most of of them were idiots and the kids were idiots but they just didn't know it yet. Probably over half the cars were wrecked. This included a brand new m3 which was slammed sideways into a curb knocking both right wheels completely off the car.

The fr-s is also a bad first car. Sure it "only" has 200 HP but with those tires and the softer suspension tune thing is tail happy as hell. Once they take off TC and stability its over. Which when your 16 you WILL turn those off. Hell, that's how the m3 was wrecked. The frs is actually very unforgiving for a newer driver.

Buying a brand new sports car for a 16 year old boy is extremely poor judgement, by most common measures.

Personally I don't think it's smart to get any kid a brand new car for their first car, let alone a sports car. But if you are going to get your kid a new car, at least have a good sense to get them something that doesn't encourage shenanigans. Why do you people think insurance is so expensive for males 16-25....?

I used to call buying new drivers sports cars/motorcycles a late term abortion. A very very very late term when the parents are like " well fuck, this one is fubar. Let's buy him something dangerous."

In no way did you do anything wrong. It was mainly something that's implied from using the word "cute," and then someone else started talking about women. Then a comment was made justifying those women's purchases saying they'd enjoy the car regardless of transmission, and 2nd86 knee jerked at completely the wrong person.

Don't sweat anything man. You said both cute and good looking. The conversation just flowed the way it normally does with mostly male car people, toward women.

Getting a 16 year old new driver a 2+2 200hp club racer is about as sound judgment as getting him a motorcycle, a lifted Jeep, or a chipped turbo diesel pickup.

That age group is best served with getting an old hand-me-down family sedan.

What planet are you guys from? Did y'all ever watch 90210 or The OC, or go to a modern high school in the USA\Canada in this or the last decade? 16 year old kids drive Porsche's, Ferrari's, even lowly Mustangs, and Corvettes...They were driving cool cars back when I was in High School even in Arkansas.

Giving your kid a cool car like a FR-S is not having poor judgement. It's just being a cool parent. If you are rich, you are not going to have your kid driving in a beat up honda civic. But yeah it is probably going to make our insurance rates go up on the FR-S. But this was going to happen anyways.

The FR-S is an affordable sports car, not some rare hard to get exotic. You are going to see some teenagers driving them, just like you see them driving Civic Si coupes and GTI's.

Um, those are TV shows. They do not, contrary to popular belief, reflect reality - they are fiction. They definitely do not reflect reality at most Canadian high schools. Sure you might get a couple rich kids in a city school but not really anywhere else.

It's being an idiot parent. Your kid will think you are cool but you will think you are an idiot after little johnny wraps that sucker around a pole.

Why not I would rather they drive that and wreck it, than wreck a brand new car.

So much stupid in this it hurts. 90210 and the OC.... is reality... really man? I grew up in a wealthy white as hell suburb. It is not like that. Maybe a hand full of expensive cars
. Lots of old Japan cars, cheap beamers, and trucks. The parents who did buy the showroom sports cars were idiots. Hell, they were not even the wealthiest people. Not even close.

Yes, and when they wreck them(and they often do), daddy buys them a new one. In fact, daddy most likely already has junior a job set up after high school too, as well as a new house with rent paid for, and a plethora of other ass-wiping/hand holding events that will continue until death.

Oh it's definitely cool, but you couldn't be further from the truth in regards it not being poor judgment. My town is filled with crosses from daddy's vehicle choice, usually Mustangs and Camaros. The survivor of the wreck(passenger/s) always go out and buy even faster cars once recovering from the hospital and after suing both the insurance company and the parents of the dead driver.

The most common factors in the 30+ years I've lived here have been rear wheel drive, followed by a tree or lamp post. It's never the Civic or Corolla unless they were the ones being hit by daddy's little boy/girl.

You buy a $25000 car for a child(16), you might as well wipe his ass until he's 40.
