Subaru puts a second switch for parking lights dead smack in the middle of the steering column on the top side. People have gone like 10+ years of owning their car and never saw the switch there.

Cuz on old Subarus the lights go off when the ignition is off. They needed a separate switch to turn the parking lights on if you take the keys out. Really stupid lol!

German cars after you park it and take the keys out, you can flick the turn signal stalk to either left or right to light up the side parking lights when parallel parked around a dark street corner. I'm guessing Subaru was probably thinking something similar to that effect.

There are countries where it is the law that you have to leave your parking lights on when parked on the street.

I just discovered the "trunk release disable" button in the trunk 3 weeks ago, after nearly 3 years of ownership. I bought some beer and wine at the LCBO in Sauble. I put them in the trunk, underneath the aftermarket mesh net I have installed back there. Then I drove across the street to the grocery store. The trunk wouldn't open when I returned with my groceries. Of course, it was raining at that point.

A quick search of the forum and I found out about the button and the key lock, which I'd never had cause to use before. I found the offending can of beer sitting on top of the mesh net, suspiciously pointed directly at the button. Must have slid out of the bag and under the edge of the net as I accelerated out of the LCBO parking lot, then slid sideways into the button as I turned right into the grocery store.

Oddly enough, the button got pushed again by something in the trunk the following week. Now I keep the cloth shopping bags pushed up against the left side of the trunk to protect the button. That thing needs a removable cover...

To Add to it, the switch is very low profile, so usually people wipe down their dash and steering column when they are cleaning their interior will inadvertently flip the switch. Depending on your height/driving position/wheel position, the steering wheel can obscure it's existence.

A good Subaru Salesmen will disclose the button during the test drive.
