You can't say the 15K in parts on this car do not add value at 5K miles. Sure you can't add 15K to the resale price of the vehicle itself, but for someone who wants a BRZ with a supercharger, flex fuel, tune, catch cans, exhaust, wheels, STI body kit etc. etc. then it is a steal.

If anyone on here were seriously interested in this car Id be more then happy to discuss with them any details, including what the dealer would probably negotiate to (based on my trade in.)

Oh and by the way, you are incorrect. They bought the car for WELL more then trade in value, in fact more then original MSRP.

I didn't say someone wouldn't be willing to pay more for quality work and parts already done that they may have done to the car anyways. But in 99% of all cases no one "dealers" will pay you anything extra for parts on a car.

I am shocked that they did.

And you have to realize this (heavily modified car with no powertrain warranty) significantly narrows your scope of buyers. And is probably the reason the car has been sitting there since May. It might take that special buyer to come along, but the dealer may also have to lower the price considerably to attract a buyer.

They originally had it listed over $40K... and yes, they need someone that wants those mods already done... a casual buyer going into buy a stock BRZ isn't going to buy it.

That's pretty close to what El Cajon did though! Retail prices of stock 2013 BRZs with that low of mileage are probably $21-23k, right? Add the $15k in modifications and you'd be looking at $36-38k. Of course, that negates labor, which was probably substantial on items like the blower install, but since they're expecting a ~$11k premium over a stock BRZ, they're expecting to recoup about 75% the value of the mods. In my experience with heavily modified cars, that number usually is closer to 50%, which would put it at ~$30k, which I think is saleable.

Secondary problem would be book value. Banks typically will loan up to 120% of value. For this car, that would be about $27500. This means an even further limited pool of buyers as they'd have to have cash or trade equity to make up the difference.

It's an amazingly well-done car and doesn't look like you spared any expense in the build. But, as an enthusiast, if I'm paying that close to full retail for everything, I'd rather do it myself - both for the oversight and the fun/experience of doing it myself.

I suspect they are still too high. Think about it, that used car with no powertrain warranty is in the same price range of a brand new STI, Evo, Golf R, Mustang GT, etc with full warranty.

But hey, at the end of the day a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I am sure the dealer will figure that out soon enough. Someone may want that car for that price.

Two problems with finding a buyer: no warranty; and its a project.

The no warranty thing can bite you especially bc of the added power. Something could go boom, or axle break, or trans chewed up, etc and now you're left with an expensive repair. Not only an expensive repair, but...

Its a project. Does it overheat after a couple hours? Does the car have unsorted issues? The dealer can say its perfect, but then you get home and realize the computer screen doesn't read mpg correctly and never will bc of the mods. (I don't know, it might work fine - just throwing out an example of something.) Then the issue of say breaking axles every 7k miles. (again - just an example, this car might be fine for life) The dealer wouldn't know anything about that, but the owner would need to find upgraded parts to handle the added power. Its a project.

On the flip side, it LOOKS well done, and lots of people are interested in a higher hp BRZ. There's definitely people out there that will find added value in the mods that were done. Now its just a matter of finding people in that subset that can afford the car and are in the market to buy it.

Great looking car. What was the suspension setup? I like how she sits.

I know this is probably a pointless question but.. why do people by a 25-30 thousand dollar car, put 15k of mods into it, and then sell it after 5 thousand miles for a massive loss?

I just can't wrap my mind around that.

Heh, that's funny. I had a B8 S4 and went to a BRZ. I missed the S4 but couldn't afford it and the BRZ so I got a C5 RS6. Maybe in the future I can get another B8. They're such great cars!

The itemized price list photo in the article says that the car has STi front and rear springs.

I really like the overall look of this car. Clean, and classy.

That dealer is gonna have a hard time selling it for more than 25k. I guess you sweetened their ear saying you would post online about it to draw potential buyers, but I dont think anyone in their right mind other than a spoiled younger dude would consider that thing.
