My thoughts/wishes:
1. From the new shots, it looks like the OEM wheel gap will be lessened? That would be great if so. Of course, the shots might just make it look like that.
2. New wheels look better but still not my taste.
3. New front end is meh to me. It's fine but also not my taste.
------ now we are getting into fanfic tier wishful thinking ------
4. I'd love a more aggressive factory exhaust note.
5. Pray for torque dip elimination? That would make it significantly faster despite no real power gains on top. Combine with more aggressive gearing like the new MX5 and it could be surprisingly quick.
6. I recall an interview with Tada where he thought it wouldn't be unreasonable to drop an additional 200lbs from the car. While I think that was unrealistic, dropping 50-100lbs shouldn't be outside the realm of possibility. This would help too.

Like I said, wishful thinking.

I'd take 200lb weight reduction (<10%) over a 20hp gain (10%).

Subaru has tons of experience with turbo charging boxster engines.

Sorry, not faster than some family sedans and some family SUV's if it makes you feel better.

The cheaper part I agree with if they kept the car the same. Bigger and AWD? I don't. They just need to give the car the power it should have had all along. There are many, many, buyers who either sold their car, or passed on it because they wanted more power. This car was never destined to be a high volume seller, but I think they would have seen a nice bump in sales if they gave it more respectable power.

We all want more power in the twins including myself and this is why Im currently modifying.
Correct me if im wrong though... didn't toyota/subaru already try something similar to the WRX for the twins (boxer engine with small turbo) and that didnt work out due to several problems one being emissions. (cant remember the rest) Another problem was weight to power ratio, according to vehicle laws in North America. Like I said, correct me if Im wrong but I have done ALOT of personal research and this is what it always comes down to. Power to weight ratio.....although the stock S2000 had alot more balls then the twins!!!

IIRC, the MY16 gained about 9lbs compared to the older models.

There is no way that the new 86/BRZ will be lighter than the original. I wouldn't be surprised if they added more sound deadening to make the car feel more upscale.

Some cars do seem to get away from that though such as the Porsche Macan. May have something to do with the clamshell hood.
I personally think the 2013-16 twins look alot better than this crap

2017 Toyota 86 - new name, styling, and more power

I wasn't saying it lost weight. I'm just saying for all the bitching about power, I want less weight more than I want more power. Less weight helps everywhere (handling, braking, accelerating). More power only helps in accelerating.

I didn't think you were saying it lost weight. Your comment just triggered me to think the possible new weight through. That steering wheel alone has got to add a couple of pounds.

They could have done so much better with the exterior. The steering wheel would be enough for me not to want to buy this car.... Unbelievable!!!
Dont expect more power from factory cuz that wont happen, EVER!!! DYS

Did they drop a dual clutch in the autos (FUCK NO) Never. Im surprised they even gave it a facelift after all. I would say brembo brakes but the current brakes will do for the glorious + 5hp. I do hope + 5hp was enough to get rid of that torque dip

I almost bought a skyline R33 right hand drive back in the day
I thought to myself, I dont think I can get used to driving a right hand side car... regardless I opened the door and sat down in the car admiring everything until I realized it was an automatic...
