About 20% of what I do is part of HR. If the opportunity arose I would happily move iton that field more.

They are hired by management to work for everybody. It can be a tricky balancing act.

Makes a lot of sense. I say go for it.

I'm going back to school in the summer. that's going to suck a lot and the years being in school while working full-time are going to be hell. but it's not worse than spending the next 20 years at my current job or staying in this industry.

I was 32 when I went back to school while working full time. It worked out well but at the time it was not pleasant.

Cliffs:

Guy at my office asked me to pick up some keyboards from Costco. Since our company operates in the stone age I would have to get a check cut in order to go pick them up. So I told him he could pick something on Amazon and I could order it or he could ask the AP girl to order it online from Costco.

but that's where it went bad. I said the dumb broad(she really is about as sharp as a rubber ball) could order it since she is the pseudo purchaser now and not just AP like she should be. he forwarded the email to her since it had the link for what he wanted at the bottom.

I'm a little older than that now. I really think the worst part will come around internship time and starting at a new company. I'll probably be older than my bosses.

That eventually happens to all of us, it's OK you'll survive it. I'm pretty sure I'm older than everyone above me including our CEO/Chairman.

Too lazy to look up the sources, but I've read multiple which state that the average person changes their full career about 3 times throughout life. My mother has gone from working in early childhood education, to an office admin, and is now a technical trainer. She was in her 50s during her last career change.

Side note: It turns out having a background in early childhood education really helps when teaching lawyers how to use document management systems.

I start a new job on Monday. It's not exactly a career change per se, since its in the same field (I work in IT security). But, it has way more upward movement opportunity and killer benefits and pension plans.

my last 3 performance reviews went basically like this:

Boss: You're doing great. We have no pathway for growth for you here. here's your 3% raise.

I hate my job.

Since I started at my current job, I've been reassigned to a different department and manager 4 times, each time being promised that I will get a job title change and a raise since I was getting more responsibilities each time. I received zero title changes and zero raises outside of my normal yearly 3%. I brought that up to my current manager, and even presented a restructuring plan so that my team's responsibilities were divided logically and our pay scale was brought up to what it should be. That was met with positive reception and praise for my initiative, followed by no actions to make it happen. So, screw 'em, I'm out.
