One pointy cervix but ya now I can't unsee it.

Smiles per gallon are always worth it, even spending $15 dollars more a fill. If we get killed on carbon taxes again I may cry.

Ran 91 for a bit, Then switched to 94 and noticed the motor felt smoother through revs. I haven't switched back to 91 in a while. I should do it again to make sure I didn't placebo my self.
I looked at it as yes I spend more per gallon but my mileage more than makes up the difference. Had this debate with the wife every time she complained that I have to pay for premium. Back then she had an SUV that got an average 23 MPG against my 34. Who is paying more in the long run?

You averaged 34? I think I've bested that with cruise control on the highway at 110. That 4.3 F.D...
I average 26-28

Definitely worth comparing overal fuel costs. SUVs seem to be the best selling things around right now. I borrowed my father's FJ cruiser not long ago; the fuel consumption and range made me chuckle. 60L tank and it'll blast through it in 400km or less, while suggesting premium fuel. Something that Terrible on gas needs at least 80L.

My previous car was a Suzuki SX4 AWD. Averaged 24-28mpg and had less range. 300-400 on 40 liters. This car goes am easy 420km for me on 40L.

Bored isn't the right word, exactly, but yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Though I wouldn't use the word "rationalize". Before making decisions like this I create a "T" chart. The chart tells me it's time to sell.

Frankly, I couldn't tell the difference and the car didn't seem to mind. I'd have to go back and look at my records but I don't think it even impacted MPG outside the normal margin of error from one tank to the next.
That is very interesting. Everything I've read here strongly implies that these cars are even more sensitive to octane than most cars that use 93. I'll give it a try and see what happens. BTW, the check engine light came on as I left the station the last time I filled up. I have an OBDII reader from amazon waiting for me at home to see if it just might be fuel related.

I'm sure it probably has some long term effect, but once you are at 170K miles, what does long term mean anyway?

98% of my miles are open highway at 70mph with cruise control on.

One of the funniest things I ever saw on a T-Shirt:

I'm not a gynecologist, but I'd be happy to take a look.

Heh.

I figure I'll never need plugs again, and since the only brake job it's had was at 142k miles (and there was still pad left) I'll probably never need brakes again either. And the plugs were replaced at 120k with iridium plugs, so I don't expect to replace those either.

Meanwhile, I bought new shocks, but only put the rears on so far...

I always thought it looked like a goat so squinted and noticed that the charging cable looks like a sperm penetrating an egg so you're on to something.

I had the same debate with mine until she fired back that after factoring in fuel cost, maintenance, insurance and depreciation, it didn't add up (she was driving a different HyCam then) compared to her DD. I deflected with the intangible value of driving and looking at the "asset".

I didn't mention the $$ octane boost additive or the three sets of tires shredded during auto-x and track days.

At least I bought it right and didn't take too much of a bath when it sold.

If you don't want increased (or ANY) carbon tax, then be more forceful with your government representatives about it.
