If your parts don't make your car go, handle or stop they are most likely a waste of money.

Remember, all the "weighted shift knobs" and other bits that consumers buy because they are consumers will be eating into your budget for actual parts that improve the performance of your car.

In saying that, the first parts for your car, if you don't already have them is:

1 x slim floor jack
4 x car stands
1 x metric tool kit
1 x torque wrench

Then find a workshop manual.

Then spend the next 3 months researching all that is suspension, braking, NA and boosted, and all the issues that you might have.

Then work out your budget.

Then work out if your staying stock power, modified NA or rod snapping boosted.

From there do more research.

Getting these things to handle well is fairly easy and not ridiculously expensive.

Getting around 200hp NA is relatively easy and not ridiculously expensive.

Boosting, can open up a can of worms IRT reliability, unless you have deep pockets.

Opinion may vary is correct. I believe in function over form... BUT I also believe some cosmetic mods will make you feel better.

I suggest you first decide what you want the car to do or to be. Then modify as desired to achieve those goals.

I started with a shift knob, and painting the interior trim of the car black. And tires. Because I know I like all black interiors, non spherical shift knobs, and grippy tires! Go to some meets, see what other people have, ask to really check stuff out - you may not know your preference until you've felt it. Enjoy owning a car and everything will come in time! And don't be afraid to be different

So the thing i love the most about this platform is that the car can train the driver on how to handle the car.

I highly recommend doing nothing performance-oriented for at least 1 year for performance mods. Daily drive it, and the car will show you it's character and where it's deficiencies are. Personally, I don't feel the car has any. Going on 5 years with only aesthetic changes.

As far as cosmetic stuff, i browse ft86 speed factory and ebay a lot just looking at the available parts. Cosmetic parts are entirely personal preference and because they have no performance benefit, there is really no right or wrong answer there.
