Report: Toyota FT-86 Sedan Version Coming
There's a report coming out of carsguide.com.au that a sedan version of the FT-86 has also been given the green light. The reasoning behind this move is to act as an insurance policy to cover potential shortfalls in FT-86 coupe sales. No specific source was named other than a "source close to Toyota."
This does make some sense to us as the platform, powertrain, and mechanicals from the FT-86 would be already developed and easily adapted to a sedan model based on the same, which can potentially increase overall sales for Toyota based off of just one platform. Per Carsguide: Quote:

2013? Hybrid? haven't those "rumours" been proven to be just that, rumours?
I don't mind the idea of a sedan, I'll be rolling in the coupe hands down, but a lot of that info is just repeat bullshit we've heard time and time again, and some of it is just baseless speculation. H6? Since when? I guess we'll see... but I'm not convinced any of this is true, except the possibility of a FT/FR-86/S Sedan. |

Anything but not FT86 please. Toyota can lengthens the platform and gives a four door different name, but not FT-86 sedan. New sedan with FT-86's platform powered by H6 would be more ideal. my .02.

Great news, it could be an exciting car for 5 ! Or 4 at less...But one thing, the future model will be the 86, not the FT-86....

Old rumorfactory BS aside this makes sense, from a sales point of view. I personally will not touch the Sedan version of this car, I will only own coupe's or hatch, and if a sedan is the only option that will greatly deter me from buying the car. I only hope they don't compromise stuff on the coupe to accommodate the sedan.

that rendering makes me think this has porsche panamera-fugly written all over it.
however, i would make an exception if their efforts results in something similar to what aston martin did with their astonishing rapide 4-door. but overall. i wish toyota would stop dragging their asses, worry less about the bottom line and just spend the money to give us a good product that isn't the result of penny pinching (has anyone seen the dashboard of a toyota venza lately? the fit/finish is absolute crap), and so many buyers will be flocking to their showrooms they won't have enough capacity to keep up with demand. anyway, that's my vision of a perfect little world... please hurry up toyota. my current car is falling to pieces and i can't hold out any longer, or else a hyundai genesis or a ford mustang will be in my future. |

If this rumor is true, it has higher chance of having AWD in sedan ver later on (like G35). Or even Subaru might make sedan ver AWD

Haha, you know what I just noticed, the reflection of the lights don't line up on the doors.
Edit: Also, I doubt subaru would come out with a sedan of this even if toyota did. What would be the point? It would pretty much be a legacy. Most likely in NA we're going to be using the same 2.5L boxer engine that they use over here anyways. |

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but the source is confusing the small compact Impreza platform(albeit modified) the FT86 sits on and the larger mid-size Legacy/Liberty(in Australia) with stuff like the CVT which is only on larger mid-size and up vehicles. Also even if they do strech the platform with the already small engine space(one of the main reasons they are using the Subaru boxer) how do they expect to fit the bigger H6 in there without messing up the weight or ratio of weight? I really don't trust this source.
