but then the question is... should I just go for the tune or will this throttle controller help the car on top of the tune? I think it will help but I`m not 100% sure

Very odd post,...a lot of the reviews by testers raved about the throttle response.

you'd be much better off simply picking a good tune for your car. It would fix this and a host of other issues at the same time. Not to mention the DBW throttle interacts with many other car systems features (traction and stability control for starters) and its removal would give the ECU fits.

Looking at this post from @Jeff Lange and this post from @SkullWorks, I'm left thinking these controllers don't solve the issue after all. It sounds like the ECU handles any off-idle delays and that a tune is truly the best way to kill input lag.

i make my own judgements and go for a drive on my own unless it's Chris Harris one of the reasons why I changed to a normally aspirited engine is when I owned both a 03 wrx and a 99 miata, I always found myself in the miata... I was expecting the BRZ to have that same feeling, but the drive-by-wire totally sucks and kills the throttle response. but then again, I`m just an average old joe and not one of those "car reviewers" so everything is based on my butt dyno. but based on previous experiences, I would say my butt is a sensitive one

I'm really not a fan of things that give false inputs to the ecu to trick into giving an output that it isn't entended to give. A tune will fix this and many issues.

Odd, a bunch those "car reviewers" say that you have to be in Porche to find steering feel as good as the FR-S/BRZ.

This. Every car I've driven since my Miata feels laggy, including this one.

For anyone saying the throttle is "laggy" or lazy, are you talking about just off idle, or anywhere in the RPM range and throttle input??

I find that mid corner at part throttle it has great response, it definitely doesn't lag revving up or down at all. Off idle sure, but when it counts, not at all.

Tune all day long. The controller just sends a higher voltage to the ecu to mimic larger pedal angle change than you applied.... Waste of money as it adds zero power. A tune does much more for the money.

I would agree a tune is in order,...somethings a miss,...the reviews I have read have been done by guys who drive exotics on a regular basis where feel is scrutinized,...I have also heard reviews comparing it to the best of the best in throttle feel. It's actually one of the touted points of the car.

I notice it the most when the car has to get moving from stand still. but even when I`m just rolling, and I give it the full beans, it feels like the ECU makes a calculation and then opens the throttle, whereas in the cable driven cars, there is no lag because there is no calculations to be made

i take the "experts" comments as an advice but I NEVER stereotype or assume any personal opinions until I drive the car myself. I drove many many different cars before I settled on the BRZ. I dont care what the experts tell me.. I feel the lag when I hit the throttle..

It would seem very easy to fix, if that's what you want go for it. Anything that bugs you will take the enjoyment out of the car. I have a buddy who went to the lengths of putting in a manual transmission in his newer Ford F250 as none was offered. And he wont drive an Auto.
