Unusual hole in the driver’s side carpet

Hey guys,

Recently while vacuuming my interior, I discovered a very unusual hole in the driver’s side carpet. It is centrally located a few inches behind the floor mat (see attached picture), and almost indiscernible from a cigarette burn. Kicker is, I purchased the car brand new and have been very cautious to prevent any unnecessary wear. It has approximately 45k miles, and the interior is otherwise in excellent condition.

Upon further inspection, there’s a sharp plastic piece directly under the hole. Almost like the edge of a cable tie used to hold a harness in place, but I can’t see much through the small hole. It appears that whatever is under there eventually wore through from tension/pressure in that area while getting in and out of the car. Has anyone else seen this before, or perhaps have a remedy for the situation?

The plan is currently to shave some carpet fibers in an inconspicuous area, then create a plug to patch the hole. It’s a small area that most people won’t notice, especially if the seat isn’t all the way back.

But being somewhat meticulous in attempt to preserve a limited production model, this situation is extremely frustrating as you could imagine. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Joking aside, burn the whole car. Don't even bother trying to fix it.

Looks pretty serious, pretty sure that's going to be totaled out. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Sometimes it's the little things that make a difference. So much for preserving a limited production model.

OP, that hole under your seat is TINY!!! I would not worry about it!

If you must fix it, you could replace the carpet or install these cool quilted covers.

Yep, OP, like you are contemplating, I suggest you fill up the hole with epoxy, then sprinkle carpet shavings on top of it.

Thanks for all the helpful information! Obviously this is a surmountable issue, and not the end of the world. This post is primarily to see if anybody else has a similar wear pattern. Much appreciated guys

As for Mr.ac, nice comment about the Civic. My fun car is an FD, the BRZ is merely the nice daily. But woe is me for trying to keep my things nice

I checked and I don't have any bump there. Maybe the way you sit in the car, you are pushing on it enough to have worn through it faster?

You got one with the "long distance" package. That is where you put the catheter tube thru the floor. Do you also have a second gas tank in the trunk?

Same year, same series.blue interior, same hole, same reason. Just over 53,000 miles.

The front bumper is also sagging a bit after removing it earlier this year, and the side bolsters of the driver's seat have deformed in a way that it hurts to sit in it for a long period of time. Still love driving the car so let the cosmetic stuff slide. I am considering an aftermarket seat, though. If it bugs you I suppose filling it in will be fine, but it also isn't unique to your car if that helps.

Thank you, good to know I'm not alone lol. Oddly enough, I checked my buddies 2014 and it doesn't appear to have that plastic piece under the carpet like we do. Anyway, good luck on the seats should you decide to go that route!

Why is there so much wear immediately under the seat area? General pattern is usually around the vicinity of the foot pedals..

I put Weathertech trays in a long time ago. Not even sure if I have carpet there.

In my case the seat covers were replaced under warranty due to tears in the leather after ~20,000 miles. Got the car back with new seat covers on, but the seat belt wasn't bolted in and the carpet had two new holes in it over top of two plastic clips as described. Also may have something to do with how the side bolsters are warped, but hesitant to really say that seeing as how I've put 30,000 miles on the car over 2.5 years since.
