Quite a body of evidence to suggest this disproportionately affected 2013 cars. Oil weight?

OK, I'd been running 30w when my p0018 occurred as had some others, but some also ran the 20w as well so no trend there.

Yeah. I'm not sure what would cause it a second time, some two months later.

If they give me another new ECM, I'll convert the car back to stock so it'll be ready for sale.

I suspect your cam sprockets are broken and it takes awhile for the learning values to get far enough out of spec to throw the CEL.

anyone have any success stories on this? got my code at 99k miles so it was out of warranty.

No engine roughness or idle issues. Just limp mode every 5-10 miles. Runs fine with code turned off.

P0016 code here. and tried swapping OCVs and sensors no luck and no change in code

That is the same as the p0018 except yours is passenger side. Had this happen twice. 1st time it took an OCV and ecu change to fix. This time it took a cam gear and ecu to fix. As much as you could call 2 times in 2 years a success story. No more codes or occasional limp home behaviours.

Yup. They called me a few minutes ago to say that. They also want to replace the timing chain.

Estimated at $2500.

Ah, still pricey tho. I'd argue if you knew how to do it, to do it yourself. Or another shop that's not the dealer.

I called the two closest speed shops (Mach V & PTuning). Both are quoting near Toyota's estimate (about $200 less).

I would try to tackle this if I:

1- Had a second vehicle
2- Tools
3- Space

Always replace chain and sprockets together. Good that they are doing that.

Given the job, $2500 is a reasonable quote. I'd have no trouble pulling the trigger if I trusted the guy doing the work. Good luck.
