Bringing this thread back. The next SFR SCCA autox event is Saturday, June 24 at Crows Landing http://www.sfrautox.com/?page_id=162
Pre-reg is $50 (https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...co-solo-409299). On site registration is $60. Morning run groups will start at 9am, so be there around 8am for on-site registration, checking in, setting up the car, and walking the course. Afternoon groups will start at 12:30pm at the earliest, depending how fast the morning groups go, but you must be on-site for registration and check-in before noon. |

Bump to congratulate @justint5387 & @tigermack for 5th & 7th at Nationals! Competition was crazy stiff. Also congrats for bringing home a DS trophy for another SFR 86 (sorry idk everybodies usernames), some great representation out there, it's great knowing there's a high bar at every local event y'all show up to (both 86ers and non).
Also good to see 3 other 86's at Lotus Club today, fun course aside from that little roundabout Scca at crows end of the month? I know @G_Ride is hyping a Civic Type R appearance with Scroggs codriving... Last edited by strat61caster; 09-10-2017 at 10:24 AM. |

I missed registration opening by a whole 75 minutes so fingers crossed for a bunch of late cancels =/ That's why I was looking this morning, still 139 registered for 100 spots so... not likely. |

Track days don't require as much as one might think but AutoX is a lot more accessible for most people. There's several great organizations in the Bay Area who host events (SCCA, American AutoX, Lotus Club, BMWCCA). Should try one out before the season ends.

The event the 30th/1st would be a good first time, pretty laid back, no pre registration, show up with $50 in hand and go slide your car around for a few minutes with the worst consequences being a scuff mark or two.
I also suggest Lotus club, best seat time/$ autox around here. Grab a buddy (post here to meet up with someone to guide you around the event, not just some buddy of yours who's equally clueless) if you have no idea what's going on, shit can be overwhelming, but that's just me, other people can take stuff in stride better than me. I also was not hooked at all until I rode along with someone driving the car at 10/10ths and realizing I was totally under-driving the car and then again when I had someone else drive my car and blow my doors off by over 1s. I think everybody should try both, I won't pretend one is better than the other (my heart is in wheel to wheel racing, but I don't have the means to pull it off right now). For me autox scratches an itch that HPDE's can't. Fingers crossed I make it out to Sonoma next year, I've done Laguna 3x and Thill 2x (once East, once 5-mile w/ bypass) and I really need to cap off the NorCal trifecta while I have nothing holding me back except time and money. Quote:
I mean, I was hitting <2:00 laps on my stock 86 my first time at Laguna with the instructor egging me on, yeah it's twice as much as other groups but a good instructor is worth his/her weight in gold. Almost every group has loaner helmets, they can be a bit funky though, like the loaner helmets at go-kart tracks or gym shorts when you forgot yours at home in middle school. As long as your car is in good maintenance and your mods haven't made it handle worse you should be good to go. |
