Dyno - JDL + HKS + pump gas = 188.9 whp
I don't really know what's considered 'good' these days for a typical I/H/E pump gas setup on a GT86. Seen a number of dynos for I/H/E setups on E85 but not so many pump gas ones so I thought I'd share.
FWIW these are also the best N/A pump gas dyno numbers my tuner's gotten from a GT86 so far. Power mods: JDL Auto Design UEL header JDL Auto Design over pipe HKS front pipe + high flow cat HKS Hi Power catback (mid pipe + axleback) BMC panel filter (stock airbox) 98 RON (roughly 93 Octane) pump gas Stock-everything baseline run: All mods installed; first tuned run vs. final tuned run: AFRs are in the mid 12s in the mid rpm range tapering down gradually to the low low 12s in the upper rpm range. Pretty typical tune, a bit on the safe side since I need to be able to track the car as-is. Should mean that other folks ought to be able to get similar results from the same setup without too much trouble. Happy with the numbers. Love the strong top end power. Love the taller, flatter & longer torque curve and the way the torque dip's been smoothed out. Feels very linear, progressive and responsive out on the road. I basically think it comes down to my tuner being on the ball and the @JDLAutoDesign + HKS exhaust combo being a particularly kick a$$ exhaust setup. Sounds ultra bada$$ too.

Nice gains.

Every tuner ive talked to has said that CAI not only make it harder to dial in, but also do nothing for power. Thats why I went with a drop in filter instead. Made 190/151 with my setup

I had a spin in Ultra's ride the other day and it sounds in a word......orgasmic!
Idle got a nice rumble, not to loud. When you hit the beans pedal deep rubbly sex, and an amazing tone all the way up to red line. |

People actually believe a drop-in filter makes as much power as a CAI? Rofl.

Most CAI cause more problems on this car than help.....
Intakes will only add power if the stock box is a restriction.

We didn't see any benefit to adding a CAI to this car the way it's set up. Even the panel filter might be a bit superfluous. It's getting plenty of air.
The gains observed are primarily from the changes to the exhaust setup, and corresponding changes to the map to take advantage of that. One takeaway I'd highlight is that the JDL UEL header seems to be a very functional piece, and it does sound lovely too. The other takeaway - IMO - is that investing in a quality full exhaust setup seems to be the best way to gain power and torque from these engines in NA form. Also, in my case, I noticed that the stock front pipe (with the cat) was a pretty big restriction on its own. So was the factory back box. Headers and over pipes give that little extra icing on the cake once you get the other restrictions out of the way. Ultimately it seems that it helps a lot if each of the individual parts in the exhaust are well designed and functional. They then need to work together well to get good results overall. Beyond that, it's up to your tuner to do their magic. You won't notice ridiculous power gains this way like you would from an FI setup, but the car definitely feels more responsive and pulls better through the gears, as if it's suddenly got slightly longer legs. Difference is most noticeable in the higher gears actually - 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. It now pulls from mid range to redline in those gears in a way it never did before. Best part is that my engine is still mechanically stock - warranty and reliability aren't affected - and the mods are easily and fully reversible. I'm not interested in lightweight drive/crank gears for that reason. Don't see the need. I'd be happy to do a sound/drive by video in the coming days if peeps would be interested.

I'd swap the final drive gear before ever doing pulleys. Better performance gains to be had. Just my opinion though.
