Sounds like a decent refresh

The only thing I'm not digging is the front bumper...13-16 looks much sharper, but maybe the new design will grow over time or once we see it in person.

Would be nice if there is a performance version tho, or some BBK options when buying the car (for the TRD Parts BBK's price, I'd rather go with Project Mu), or maybe a slightly tweaked front bumper like the 14R for 13-16

Overall, happy to see most of the changes, and can't wait to see some reviews on the supposedly revised chassis and suspension.

Come on dude this is the real world and people don't like the same things and say so. Great you like it. There will be plenty that do and I am happy for them. I am not trying to tell anybody else they shouldn't like it nor am I saying that they should have made changes that I would like. I am not part of the "everybody gets a ribbon" generation and if I don't like things I will say so. Most of us that don't like the changes have stated exactly why WE don't like them and our opinions are just as valid as yours.
Quit whining tcoat and get over yourself.....

But mine is the only opinion in the world that counts. Can't wait for the responses to my whining about them whining about the whining. If it goes on long enough we may just reach whining inception!

Despite the fact I own an FRS, you're still more than half the reason I come to this forum haha

Scrolling through a bit, Clyde makes a good point with the chassis reinforcements. If I remember correctly, the statement on the refresh he's getting that from also mentioned beefier half-shafts, and a revised instrument cluster. Now we also see slight differences with the interior itself via the stitching and cloth, as well as different tail lights.

All the differences of zenki / kouki AE86's is now being seen with the 2017 Toyota 86 vs Scion FR-S

However the cluster in one of the interior shots looks the same. Oh well.

Where are you guys getting the info on the chassis reinforcements and other changes? None of that is mentioned in the press release. I am curious if they did not include all the changes in their list.

It was in an interview with Tada-san....I'll see if I can't find it real quick.

Edit: and I give up...damnit. Its probably on this forum anyway somewhere. It was the same interview that also said they were increasing the size of some bolts in the front suspension, that are a weakness on the current 86.

It's the announcement of the MY 2017. Maybe they went a different direction. With the power bump; it sounded like the same power, geared differently, to give a higher top end number. Like t coat, I am interested to see one in person... maybe a test drive wont hurt either. You know, to be thorough...

Gearing has no impact to crank horsepower. Gearing changes how it gets to the ground, but not the crank rating.

On the manual version of the car, !additional performance comes from a gear ratio change and a torque increase to 156 lb.-ft, as well as a five-horsepower increase to 205 hp
You're correct, the gearing comes after the bhp. The way they wrote it though...
