Don
I have to hit the gas station every two days. I have discovered that Kroger has a $.30 price difference from regular. Everyone else is between $.50 and $.90 difference. Since Kroger is also the cheapest gas around here, it matters. I'm paying $2.15 a gallon for 93 octane right now.

When I sell this car, I will never own another car that burns premium. It's not worth the hassle - and it is a hassle, because I'm cheap. I refuse to pay the higher difference unless there is not a Kroger within range. Then I will buy a gallon to get me to a Kroger.

My personally cars for the last 20 years have used premium. It was painful when gas was more than twice the price it is now. I’ve used 87 in those cars for the last 10 years. Haven’t really noticed any difference. Not in gas mileage or performance. Actually my last car a 350z that I babied and put premium in every fillup had the throttle body go bad then the oxygen sensor. Changed out both and had over 100k miles on it so I said f it and started using 87 until I wrecked it and traded it in for this car. I bought one of the first 350z and had it for 13 years until it was sideswiped by a car full of teenage girls.

I guess if I do hear pinging or knocking I will go back. I wouldn’t recommend others do it. I’m trying it as a personal experiment to see if it ever develops any problems. Kinda curious if anyone else did.

Im putting in whatever is the minimum octane requirement the car asks for...…..

I don't want to risk damaging my 20,000-30,000 purchase over not wanting to pay for its required upkeep.

We still cruise the gut every year in The Couve. You should come down sometime. It's a hoot. You & my neighbor across the street would be thick as thieves in no time.

BTW, I have used non-ethanol in mine. My anus did not pucker any differently. So my butt dyno contradicts yours.
Dueling butts? Bumpin' butts? Yeah, whatever. If I hit the button to show current mpg it will show higher on non-e than 10% at the same speed in the same gear on the same hill on the same day, this is confirmation that it's pulling and running better IMO. Like I said this may be because the fuel pump works better on non-e fuel due to being better lubricated but that's just my theory. I might be biased though

Ethanol gas is more knock resistant than non-ethanol. So under high loads (e.g., wide open throttle), the gas will burn cooler, therefore, reduce knock. This is exactly why tuned engines can make a lot of power with E85.

The stock engine/tune will knock with 91 gas, which means you'll lose a little bit of power. The owners manual even recommends 93 minimum.

Also non-ethanol 91 will cost more than 91 ethanol, so your MPG gains are moot point.
I'm not running the stock tune. Yes it does cost a bit more, ~$.10/gal more, but the perceived gains are nice and I certainly appreciate it when it's not chirping, that alone (almost) makes it worth the difference.

I use the best grade, the best. Ask anyone and they'll tell you. Why? Because I know gas. I understand it. I grew up with it. You can't put a price on great gas. American made gas. For the people. You'll love it.

I honestly have no clue why this forum still allows posts like this, they always devolve into off topic stuff or OP not listening. Posts like this show that OP didn't research into the car enough to know what happens. There have been plenty of posts asking people what fuel they use.

I suspect OP doesn't have an OFT or anything close to that to datalog his cars or show evidence of how lower octane fuels effect performance....

Well, the OP was just asking if anyone else was doing what he was doing.

Maybe a poll would have been more appropriate -

The problem can be when there is no way to END a thread, except to just let it drift to the bottom (or talk about forbidden topics).
