When they tested in Wisconsin, they found 6 station with wrong fuel. How much you want to bet if they tested all gas stations they will find wrong gas in the storage tanks.
I'd bet quite a bit, here in Canada. Now slag off and knock your car into a broken ring land then blame Subaru.

LOL You use this article as a defense?

Lets see here

"Putting the wrong type of fuel in your car could be costly, but what if it’s not your fault?" - This is exactly what you are doing. On purpose.

"Inspection records obtained by the I-TEAM found regular gas and diesel fuel was mixed up." - OK that is an issue. It was reported from ONE station and is not the same as mixing grades.

" it's possible they dispensed contaminated fuel into their tank,” - Again a totally different issue.

" it’s important to point out the majority of stations in Wisconsin pass!" - Relevant.

"pulled more than two years worth of inspection data, and found just four mixups at gas stations in our area impacting at least 17 customers.
In all, a total of 6 stations across our state were found to have mixed up fuel in their tanks". - TWO years. 17 customers. Out of a couple of thousand stations and god knows how many fill ups.

Your point is totally invalid.

Putting diesel in you unleaded cars can be dangerous.

Point i’m Making is that how often do you think they put 87 in premium storage tanks. Do you ever know. They don’t seem to test it very often.

Can it happen? Sure, no doubt it does. Is it an issue? Not really since a tank full of 87 every now and then isn't going to blow you car up. Should you deliberately use 87 all the time? No, it is outside of the design specifications for a high compression engine. It is all as simple as that and no amount of rationalization can change the facts.

shady business practices like that gonna get someone slapped with a lawsuit. I highly doubt that they'd purposely mix gasoline like that.

Any and all gasoline related incidents that I know of are caused by leaking storage tanks. Guess what? Gas station company taking all that blame and has to fix everyone's car. Imagine what happens if the wrong fuel is in the tank

If the car recommends 91...sure you can get away with anything lower as long as you know its safe to use. If the car REQUIRES 91...that's the minimum thing im putting in it.
If you don't want to pay for the upkeep of the car, then get another car that doesn't need that upkeep. My X1 requires a minimum 89...im putting 89 in it...not going 87 because 'its cheaper'.

if you had diabetes would you be constantly drinking coke because you still can or would you actually try to scale back your sugar intake and drink diet coke or better yet water?

How much you got?

"According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were 114,533 gas stations in the U.S. at the end of 2012, the last year for which data is available."

Log your knock sensor or STFU and remain blissfully ignorant.
You are 100% knocking on 87.

The dealer I was buying the car from was telling me to use regular even though it explicitly states in the manual to use 93 or at least 91. Then I saw a guy with a C63 AMG put regular into his car. One of my wife's friends puts regular into her car even though it asks for 91. She says it's a lease so she doesn't care. This is why I will never buy a used car again.

I have a 10 year history of no problems with 87 in premium car

This is not a Lamborghini. If it blows up so be it. It’s a risk i’m Taking. Not advocating anyone else do it.

I’ll probably keep this car for as long as it holds up. Hopefully 10 years. It probably won’t get here since I have 94k in 3 years. That would mean 300k miles. I got 13 years out of my last car until it got totaled

But if I do get there, then I would have save $7500 in gas.

And if you would have got a new bottom of the line Civic instead you would have saved about another $5000, got about 10 MPG more so another $1500, and probably cheaper insurance saving even more.

If your goal is saving money, you sure go about it in a strange way.

Good thing you're saving all that money, you might need it if/when your motor detonates.

Did you take into account that you may actually be getting worse gas mileage with the lower octane? And wouldn't that completely nullify or reduce the amount of any fuel savings you think you might be getting?

You're not advocating it, but we're also telling you its a dumb thing to ignore the manufacturer specifications.

I average 31 mpg. Good mix of highway. Seems to be little affect on mpg.
