iPad Mini dash kit for FT86
Hey guys,
Now that an iPad nearly just the size of a double DIN space is avalible, seems like the perfect time for an application specific dash kit for our beloved GT86 /FR-S /BRZ... Votes for demand? We can help make this happen. Check this out: http://jalopnik.com/5954065/the-new-...y-in-your-dash Last edited by Esoteric; 10-25-2012 at 01:19 AM. |

This is what i've been waiting for. If anyone can make one i can install that would be terrific. Its a shrunk down version of the iPad 2 which is just fine for me, its what i already have.

I think Android is a much better OS for the dash. Apple OS has way to many restrictions that will probably make it very difficult.

Not for what i need it for. All i ever use is an iPhone in the car anyways. App wise i'd only be looking at Dash Command and a couple of other things as needed. I never listen to the radio, i always use or download files from my iTunes cloud or Spotify, XM if this works out. Only other thing i would use is Dash Command really. I like the simplicity of it. I've always used both Mac and PC so it's not that kind of debate for me, I just think it's better suited for what i want, and more stable. I've looked into the Android options, not a fan of Android to begin with, and they're too buggy. The restrictions on the iPad are nothing if you want to jail break it, but then it's kinda just as buggy as an Android. I like the simplicity of it just working. But i can totally see how an Android could be great too, i mean they're pretty feature rich especially a couple of the units i've seen on here reviewed the Adayo and the CA-FI. Tempting but if you think the ipad is expensive you dont even want to consider those two.
Now that there's an option i'd much rather go with this. Well at least i hope there will be an option. Cuz i'd rather not get some half assed radio like AppRadio. |

2) Android OS itself doesn't seem very buggy. It all depends on the phone. Android is open-source so that it can run on crappy phones and good phones. The crappy phones are what give android a bad name. 3) One must first come out with a jailbreak in order to enjoy such freedoms. The jailbreak itself doesn't cause any bugs. It depends on what/how many packages you install. If someone does come out with a nice iPad HU it'll be awesome. I'm just saying it'll probably be very difficult. |

The U.S. Library of Congress has ruled that jailbreaking the iPad and unlocking iPhones purchased after January 2013 is no longer legal. (sucks!)

Rather than fighting about which is better, the OP should just add Nexus 7 to the poll and see which has the greater demand.

Well just keep in mind before you put a ipad mounted in the car. Not all people who develop tools to jailbreak and sell cydia apps will risk it. Specially the well know hackers in that market.
In 2013, you will probably will have to do your own hacking of the ipad at your own risk. |

I never understood the whole fascination with mounting a tablet in the dash. Having a full head unit is a much better option in my opinion. I mean, how do you get radio functionality? How about adjusting volume?
And you guys do realize the iPad mini doesn't have GPS right? |

@coyote gt89 is not made by ACME you r betraying your sponsor.
Nowadays there's enough smart headunits that can forfill most of what we want, but if you want to install a tablet as a DIY project nexus 7 will the most logical option. |
