It would have varied depending up the reaction with each.
I hear ya, the color of it's certainly a mystery. What has me is the apparent direction of the spew and the lines of whatever it is, running down the side of the battery from what appears to the seam where the top meets the side of the battery. Maybe the battery's not completely shot, just wounded.

It seems a little unusual that a 2016 would have had it's OEM battery replaced already but that appears to be the case.

1. Is the OP the original owner of the vehicle? Do you know why or when the battery was replaced? None of the "install date" dots on the battery label have been removed.

2. A "Toyota TrueStart" battery was likely installed at a dealership. Can you log in to the the Toyota Owners Website at toyota.com and check for service records relating to the battery?

3. Is there something wrong with the charging system that it is overcharging and destroying batteries? The battery doesn't appear damaged in that way. Is there a pressure relief valve that would blow to the side of the battery?

4. Notice the amount of corrosion under the rear battery clamp. There almost had to be some acid present on the top of this battery (or a previous one) for an extended period of time to have that much corrosion. That didn't happen in just a couple days.

5. Is the battery cap nearest the positive terminal fully seated? It looks a little higher/different than the other one.

6. What does the underside of the hood look like? Is there a spray pattern that would provide further clues to the source? Was there something (other than battery acid) spraying on the hood and running off onto the battery?

I agree with Sapphireho and Tcoat: The stuff that is sprayed all over doesn't look or act like battery acid. It appears to be a little thicker than liquid acid and the wrong color.

What ever spewed may have cone from below, hit the lip of the battery and sprayed up from there. What didn't carry on just rand back down the side of the battery. It wouldn't make sense that there would be enough pressure in a battery to spray everywhere but while at the same same being low enough pressure to just run down the side. The more I think it through the less likely the battery had anything to do with the spray. It was just in the path.

Further off-topic: Did you hear about the old guy who took 1/2 of a Viagra every day?

He was just trying to make enough distance to clear his shoes.

The only time I have seen that much out of a battery was when someone tried to jump a car and put the cables on the wrong terminals and got scared and left them on and stepped back. I would agree to checking the fluid level first then looking for a cooling leak.

Car starts fine and drives great, hence I didn't notice till I popped the hood.

I assumed it was from the battery looking at the splatter pattern. It is odd though, looks like someone shot a paintball gun off under the hood.

I'll update after trying the baking soda/water. Any other general engine bay cleaners you all would recommend?
Since your car runs, I'd suggest you fire it up and look for a leak, there is gotta be more yellow stuff spewing out where that came from -

I have blown up at least 3 batteries over the years. None looked like that. In fact most ended up with a really clean engine bay from the acid and then baking soda rinse.
