A ridiculous music genious, playing and triggering everything (with a looper) from one guitar. Pat Metheny ain't my "home base" musician (I'm more of a Bill Evans kind of guy), but he is INCREDIBLE.. Check this out..

Almost 4 years to the day that a very good friend of mine took his life.

I wish I could see him more than I wish I could see my own grandparents who passed. I want to tell him I'm not upset with him, and that I wish I could have done something, anything to make him hurt less.

I remember when I was young and a friend of my parents' took his life. I couldn't understand why my dad was so broken up about it. I wish I didn't understand now why it hurts so much. I wish that no one had to feel the hurt that results from suicide. It's not a feeling I'd want anyone to feel

I really like working with bamboo flooring - and you can get it in just about every style, nail-down, floating... and some interesting colorings too.

Currently have the home theater in (low platform, with a 2nd row riser) and will some day float the rest of the basement... all raised up off the concrete to handle moisture properly (treated 1x flat, a layer of subfloor, then nailed proper on top of that).

That's the fun part of home ownership...
Bamboo flooring is nice & all... but the price Orz

Eh, $5/sq isn't bad is it? It's more than stuff built on MDF for sure, but it's competitive with the good stuff. I'd never put Pergo down anywhere I didn't expect to need to re-do once a year or more, and that's the best of the sawdust pile.

I didn't mention that for places like the kitchen, I really like cork. Bit of a pain because you have to be good about cleaning up spills pronto, but so nice on the feet when standing for a long while. And you thought bamboo was $!

Plan, research, and do the best you can - or save a little longer and do better. Slow work takes time, and home improvements are generally slow work. Nothing worse than "I wish we'd just done X the first time."

Well, I reckon your experience with Pergo has been different than mine. Our Pergo, in the kitchen, eating area and family room has held up real well for eight years, under the abuse of three grandchildren.

I looked at vinyl flooring, but I couldn't get over how it looked fake and superficial, and plasticy. I went with actual hardwood myself, but as a medium ground you could look at engineered wood flooring if you aren't sure about the vinyl. It's a thin veneer of real hardwood on top of some composite wood board.

Well, back on the farm, there weren't nutten wrong with the solid wood flooring. It had cracks to let out whatever spilled (just mop off the top). Any burns, nicks, gouges or scuff marks just weren't noticed. Never needed to be waxed and it lasted for hundreds of years (as long as the roof didn't leak). Water damage ….?? nope, no running water in the house.
