So, I had something really weird and somewhat creepy thing happen to me last night.* As some of you may know, I used to own a BRZ that I loved and begrudgingly had to give up once my 2nd kid came along.* I sold the car a couple of years ago to*vroom.com*which is an on-line car retailer.* When it was all done, I signed paperwork, scanned and e-mailed to them, they wired me the money and sent a flat bed truck to* wheel my car away.* I remember my daughter and I waving "bye" to it.

Fast forward to last night.* I got a mysterious text from a North Carolina number asking "is this (my name) and did you own a WRB BRZ?* If so, what mods did you do?".* My first inclination was to just ignore it, but against my better judgement I replied with a "yes, who dis?" lol* He said he figured out my number based on my name, which he found inside the user manual case, and that it was from CA.* Very creeped out...

Long story short, my car is now in Florida with a guy named Tom with it's engine out and awaiting a Lexus V6 swap.* The guy seemed nice enough and we had a good chat.* He sent me pics of my car in pieces and all the stuff he's been doing to it and planning to.* I told him to keep me posted on how it all turns out.

On one hand, I'm really sad the car in this state.* It never failed me and I had so many great memories with it (trackdays, canyon drives, driving my first kid around in it, etc).* I had kept the VIN on hand with this fantasy of finding it and buying it back when I had the means.* At the same time, I'm glad it ended up with another enthusiast who will enjoy and appreciate it for what it is and not some spoiled 16 year olds high school bday present.

RIP and enjoy your next life

Alright you old fogies, looking for some sage advice.

I've been working this steady job for the last 1.5 yrs or so. Pay is ok, job is chill but boring AF. I like my boss (I have to admit, she let's me get away with a lot) and i like most of the people I work with, but I don't see myself doing this type of work for much longer.

Got an offer for a job that I would like to do and should be more interesting, but can be very challenging, with a huge possibility of failure. Im not too worried and see it as an opportunity to learn and grow. It pays well but it's only a contract position with a "possibility for extension".

Now, if I were single and didn't have a mortgage, I would've jumped right on this. Now that I'm a dad of 2 with responsibilities, I'm much more hesitant. Wife is very supportive and we have enough savings to last for a few months if I don't get extended and have to look for another job.

Do I ditch the steady yet boring/uninteresting job I don't plan on keeping as a career and go f-it and take the chance of doing something more interesting and rewarding?

Questions:

Does your wife have a steady job (outside of the home)?

What kind of work are you doing now?

Do you live in an area where their is a demand for your skills?

How long is this contracted job for (initial contract)?

What kind of work is involved with that contracted job?

Would you have to relocate?

Come back?

I suggest that you keep looking for another job. The short-term contract work carries lots of risk.. stay until something more rewarding and permanent comes your way.

This. You had too many good points about the current job to walk away.

I'm no old fogey, but have you factored in benefits into 'pays x'? Something else to consider.

In my experience, contractors (even the good ones) don't typically transition to long-term employment where they are contracted. Though my brother is one exception that I know of, so I guess every place is a bit different.
