How come Toyota has 2 prototype and Subaru has none?

I mean I thought Toyota and Subaru was in this together 50:50

but it seems like Subaru really didn't care for advertising their model.

What's the deal with this?

Toyota is the largest car manufacturer in the world; Subaru isn't? Despite being a much smaller company, Subaru has more reputable image in the sporting automotive community these days? They don't exactly need to build hype on a car to sell it. They're probably planning to use it to sell WRXs.

My belief is that Subaru was hard at work on the engineering side of the deal. pumping out an acceptable powertrain for the vehicle under a short window of time. While Toyota built the design and chassy.

Toyota - 2 Design Models (minus 5axis FR-S model because based on FT86II)
Subaru - 2 RWD architectural models

Then they do fusion dance and then 1 car from each company shall appear. TADA!

i read somewhere on the forums thats how subaru does things.. they dont show a new car till pretty much the last minute

In this case, they really don't need to show anything other than their production version. All you need to do is look at the Toyota concept and picture it with different lights and bumpers. It would be a waste of money to have 2 companies release nearly identical concept cars at the same time.

Its the same reasoning behind what version people think the mule is. It doesn't matter since it's the same car and the only differences would be minor cosmetic stuff.

Average of 3~6 month before production ver. Not like Toyota, Nissan & Mazda, Subaru don't like to make ppl wait, so they usually show the concept 3~6 month before production ver.

I don't mind. I am more perplexed that this project has taken this long as it is. Why waste more money with another concept car when the production version is going to go into production in several months with it being released in the spring of '12?

When the Mk1 concept came out in 2009, they talked about it going into production in 2011, on sale in 2012.

I think 3 years from concept to showroom is pretty typical, the difference with this car is that most of us have been following every single update since the day the concept was revealed. I just hope that Subaru will finally reveal some production specs at Frankfurt. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

The FR-S/BRZ team is a mixture of Subaru AND Toyota people. Tada-san covered this in the interview. The Corporate culture precluded having each one do separate things. So in reality the only thing that is purely Toyota about the concepts/prototypes/mules is the badging.

4 years, Tada-san was working on this as early as 2007. Which is the standard production cycle length according to some of our members.

With the SVX concept that was shown in 1989, Production SVX went on sale late 1991/ 1992.
