We know the Edlebrock IAT sits about +30-35C above ambient from datalogs posted up, what is the JRSC like?
I would very much like to see some datalogs of IAT taken from a JRSC fitted car lapping a circuit. I drove a car with HKS v1 and V2 SC kit before going with Cosworth. I just found the roots charger makes a lot more torque everywhere which I preferred. Last edited by ajc209; 04-06-2016 at 05:30 AM. |

I am looking at the edelbrock kit too (have been for some time) - I'm just getting shafted by our exchange rate (price gone us basically 25% for me!!!) - and still looking at engine reliability/considering the downsides. However, the allure of more (easy) power is hard to resist

I didn't read the whole thread but... I was recommended to the Edelbrock system by my tuner(very big name in the 86 community) over any other supercharger on the market(these guys don't retail so had no stake in making a sale). They said they were really impressed by it. I haven't gotten one as I decided on a turbo but that's what I've heard

I'd say JRSC, as they're cheaper and output the same if not more power.

I cant think of one OEM car manufacturer that uses Rotrex superchargers from the factory, but I can think of tons with an Eaton Supercharger. Namely Aston Martin, Jaguar, Mercedes, Audi......

That's primarily due the mid-range power provided by the Eaton style chargers since most people would feel/appreciate it. Centrifugal chargers like the Rotrex are best for track junkies.

Of course it is absolutely possible there is some kind of Ecutek or ECU software glitch isolated to just your car, but it is more than likely still a hardware issue. I've got 4 Edelbrock kits on the road now, all running the CARB tune, and running flawlessly. They are 4 different year cars as well a 13' two 14's and a 15', with different ECU versions and different kit production dates. To this day, all of the issues I have seen with this kit on the forum, with people running the CARB tune, are installation errors. |

If there is a large margin for error in installation might be enough to sway someone to another kit. And I think rightly so since a lot of people are DIY. And according to a bunch of posts i've read some have been installed "professionally" and some with issue from DIY have had no diagnosis success taking it to a shop. Just interesting information all around.

If the charge cooling is good enough I don't seen any reason why centris are superior. In many ways the roots are better, as long as the cooling is up to scratch as they are a little less efficient. 1) Eaton TVS have a self contained gearbox with oil changed every 100k miles - no separate oil system to have to maintain or potential failure point. 2) They have more area under the curve - you can short shift and still have decent power on the flip side 1) The centris typically use air-air coolers whereas roots/screw use air-water-air which is more complicated. Though if you spring a leak its not going to very quickly kill the SC like an oil leak on a centri system 2) Cheaper 3) Less stress on the engine at low revs. Either way they have their pro's and Con's but I wouldn't suggest one is better than the other in a properly designed system, it more of a preference. I was interested in the HKS before I drove a car with it fitted (twice). I just preferred the feel of the positive displacement powered cars. I went Cosworth because I wanted the lowest IATs possible, but the Edlebrock is also decent enough. I'd always recommend Cossy because it comes with a properly developed tune, but then i'm biased |

both kits are pretty good, but two things are VERY important:
1. Proper install-don't just go to the cheapest shop. 2. Tune! Holy cow this is a big one...I'm personally running @DeliciousTuning ecutek tune with flex fuel-everything has been fantastic |
