Oh yea @Dimman, http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...bo-Engineering
So. Much. Titanium. And beryllium alloyed shit. And I think the valves and one set of rods are Titanium composite. I wonder which customers are dropping off truckloads of gold bars to pay for this. |

But this is a drag car. Rebuild probably every other pass. Can't see a Ti crank or cams being beneficial for longevity in any condition (less stiff can't be good for vibration and fatigue + galling once the coatings wear). And why no Titanium Aluminide valves if they have an apparently unlimited budget. Still cool as tits though.

Yea the titanium cams and crank are a bit silly, steel is more durable and who gives a shit about the rotating mass, you need some kind of flywheel to avoid stalling anyways, it's not reciprocating mass. The guy on the bmw forum said the titanium crank was 31000 dollars? o_o He also said 3200 for one rod? If they're particle reinforced for real, if I ever have 10-20k to blow I'm ordering some. Wonder how much titanium MMC pistons with a DLC coating would run, hopefully a bit cheaper than beryllium aluminum alloy lol. |

Actually built by one of their new German overlords rather than an austerity hampered Greek serf? It's all done by hand since Greek labour must be cheaper than China's these days? The possibilities are endless. Heh...

What I found that was interesting is that for all their ridiculous power claims, they've only run 9s? Hmmmmm... I would guess that the rep has to do with: A) Whether their claims are legit. and/or B) How their claims play out with any customer parts not meeting high expectations. Something like that? B) Was how a Honda controversy happened over a famous drag racer using his record setting runs to sell absolutely garbage headers to fanbois.

Hrm...if they're not legit, then where am I going to get my composite rods when I win the lottery or get an elite hedge fund job?

When you have the dollars you need, pick up an issue of 'Racecar Engineering' and start phoning the people who advertise in it.
