Red GT86 from Europe - Slow build - Daily+track.

Hello everyone,

after owning my GT86 for 2 months now i figured i should start a build/journal thread. I won't be changing much for now(i want to keep my warranty) so this will be pics and vids mostly.

So far i couldn't be happier about this car, excellent handling, good performance and great fun. It'll be my daily driver, but i intend to track it as much as possible so all the mods will be focusing on keeping a good balance between DD & track toy, improving the performance and fun as much as possible without compromising usability & reliability.

First time i saw her:

So, first time on track with the 86, Circuit of Jarama in Madrid(Spain)... Quite a technical track, with some blind spots and elevation changes that make you work hard to get a good laptime, but i'll better let the videos do the talking:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkrWmNtC0QA"]8000vueltas Experiences Highlights II - YouTube[/ame]

This was my fastest lap of the day, 2:06.071.

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KhtWWFsT64"]Toyota GT86 Circuito del Jarama - YouTube[/ame]

Being my first time at the track, with a completely stock 86 on stock tires i was more than happy to be under 2:10(my goal for the day) by such a difference! I know i could push harder and i have some room to improve with the car as is(my ideal lap with the best sectors was 2:05) but i had to drive all the way back home(430 miles) with the car in one piece so i tried to look after the brakes and tires.
To give some perspective, a good driver with lots of experience at this track with better tires is 4 seconds faster, so my goal is to reduce that gap for the next time.

And of course, here are some pics of the day!

So i got the chance to visit the Nürburgring for the last couple of days. Amazing fun, and the 86 was really good around the track.

I'll get into the details next week but meanwhile, here are a couple of videos. 2nd and 4th lap. Being my first time ever on such a demanding track, i think i did pretty well:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15S-ioyt9q0"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15S-ioyt9q0[/ame]

Hope you enjoy.

PS: @Guillaume i got your videos as a reference, and i can say i got pretty close... Wait for my fastest lap

Looks like you're an excellent driver, fourth lap only! No overly risk taking yet very good lines already. Concentrated yet relaxed. Perhaps you're like me, the car is mostly just a tool for driving. Thanks for sharing!

I also love to drive a new road or track well in very few laps. Well as in safe, but effective and enjoyable. It is in art lost with people doing hundreds of the same laps to shave of hundreds of a second... I'd rather drive a new road/track...

So here's my best lap, 9th and last. Extremely happy to go under 9 minutes within my first trip to the ring and a completely stock GT86(except for the tires).

Quite lucky that the track was dry even though there was some very light rain during the day, and being a normal day there was almost no traffic at all.

Now i need brakes...and new wheels...Hopefully i can get some new stuff in a couple of monts!

Thanks for the kind words, i try to do it as best as i can and i'm far from being a pro.

I didn't go to the Nordschleife to drive fast and beat someone else's time, i did it to go fast and enjoy it. Of course i'm really happy with the outcome, but IMO laptimes are good to compare and see how/where you can improve, that's it...If you start worrying too much about that and beating everyone else, you can mess up things quite easily.

Went to a trackday yesterday at the Circuito Vasco Sameiro in Braga, Portugal.

Second time i've been here, the track is really fun. I decided to take off the PSS and go back to the stock tires, so i could finish them(i wasn't able to, they still have a decent amount of rubber left).
Primacys are loads of fun sliding around, but very demanding in order to get a good time as you have to focus really hard to stay on that sweet spot at the limit between understeer and massive oversteer to go FAST, and braking is just terrible. I managed some decent laptimes though, matching some serious competition running way better tires.

So here are the videos, the first one with some of the fastest laps(too bad my gopro battery died at the end, that was the best lap of the day):

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmsprTGj5KE"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmsprTGj5KE[/ame]

And some highlights of the day, the fun part

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZnSmMXzMvU"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZnSmMXzMvU[/ame]

I'll go back in December, and i plan on improving the results with PSS and some other stuff that's on its way...

Little update... new wheels!

Pretty happy with them, looks like a different car now, and being considerably lighter than stock wheels helps performance a little

Trackday at the Vasco Sameiro circuito tomorrow, it will be a good chance to test another mod i just got: GT3 brake ducts. We'll see how it goes.

PS: Yes, i know...those wheels are begging me to get some coilovers and set a decent height...Coming soon

Thanks! Most people seem to like the new wheels as well

The Ring is a must, but i can't imagine going only once. The moment you leave, you NEED to go back
