How to do E85 correctly?

Ive gotten anywhere from e70-e85 from the same pump throughout the year. But since I store it in different drums than i transport in my supply never goes below e80. My car has sat for 5 weeks with a quarter tank of e in it with no problems. I would just fill up at first chance. E absorbs water frantically and that's the only real concern with storing it. The more air in the container the more potential for water. This should almost never be an issue in the cars tank but something to consider when storing large quantities.

So I'm glad that someone revived this thread. I plan on getting the OFT and a header down the line, so E85 would be a great compliment to the two. Problem is I travel a fair amount and there is only a few stations with E85 near me, which leads me to flex fuel.

In this thread, visconti and fa20club were mentioned for flex fuel kits. I think I would rather make my own then go through those 2 companies.

What would be a good flex fuel kit to get? Looking for reputable companies please!

I had the crickets in my DFI and I believe it's directly related to Ethanol. The standard gas in my area is E10 and when I used that I got chirping in my fuel injector. I had it replaced, but it came back. I switched to pure gas and it's gone away since. Plus I get 3-4 mpg more on real gas then ethanol.


I heard one thought that the alcohol in the ethanol dries out some of the washers and this creates the chirping sound as the fuel goes through.

I always use the same gas station and my crickets come and go at the moment. Hopefully E85 wont make it worse because I get OCD about noises coming from a car while driving. Drives me crazy

Does anyone else have a flex fuel system they would recommend. Price is somewhat of a concern.

Crickets here as well and no Ethanol has been in my tank....yet. (Planning on running a Flex Fuel Kit!)

If I remember correctly, it was something about aeration of the fuel in the hpfp and the shape of the intake plunger under certain conditions that causes the noise but I'm no scientist.

i been running E85 for the past 7000 miles with OFT no problem, i still do have the cricket noise prior to running pump gas.

I've never once had crickets in my car and I've run 91pump, 93pump, pump e85 and barrel e98. Also my car has 38,000kms on it lol

I had a full tank of E85 sit in my car for two and a half months while waiting for the bodyshop.

What you need to do is go down there right now, or asap, and put some ethanol fuel treatment into the tank.
