Thanks for the insightful input.
I was given the green light considering the sub forum.

I'm really not surprised by this law. Everyone who got a ticket would swap the old exhaust back on the car in 15 minutes, or they would install a baffle at the tip to limit the decibels then go get their fix-it-ticket signed off. This is just a way to further discourage ridiculously loud exhaust mods.

The solution to this law is to have an adjustable valve/s installed, so if you get pulled over then the cop will do a DB test and be surprised when you pass. If he is smart or suspicious or figures he heard correctly before then he may still issue a ticket, but it may work. Ford Mustangs, for instance, may still be issued a ticket for using Track mode on the street.

Existing law requires every motor vehicle subject to registration to be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise and prohibits a muffler or exhaust system from being equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

It isn’t a bypass or cutout. It is a variable baffle that is post muffler. The Mustang’s muffler is just inadequate without the baffle, but as far as I am aware, these are sold in California.

Heads up, a buddy of mine just got stopped for this. CHP issued the citation and added on a no front plate and tint ticket. The exhaust ticket alone is a mandatory court appearance with a mandatory $1,000 fine. CHP can also refer you to have an inspection by a State Referee - luckily he dodged that bullet.

Please be mindful, keep the RPMs low, and don’t attract attention to yourselves.

Be safe y’all.

Is the enforcement mainly CA state law enforcement aka. CHP? I've noticed seeing a ton of local law enforcement lurking about lately during the holidays since car traffic is low.

It's a state law now. Both CHP and local enforcement can fine you for it.
