Best thing about the 2017 models? Those nice new interior pieces! While the arm rest and upper door card pieces can be ordered off of Japan Parts already, I am waiting for the upgraded interior dash trim pieces to go on sale so I can replace my s*** two piece dash cover with the premium wrapped one.

I thought I heard that the one piece trim isn't compatible with the headunits found in the American spec models. Is anyone able to confirm?

I am usually reading both of you guys and please try to log on more. If the serious guys are not here and not posting anymore, then this place will get in total out of control.

No solid data on that spoiler on all BRZ

Nice one
Almost 100% on the spoiler being standard on all trims.

Subaru Canada’s website indicates that both the base and Sport-tech versions WILL come with the new rear wing.

None of this will impact sales ratio unless they change the manufacturing ratio. Subaru may "sell out" the model but its unlikely they will suddenly produce more of them in any significant number.

Toyota dealers in USA = 1400
Subaru dealers in USA = 450

Even if every dealer only sold one car Toyota will win based purely on availability.

To add to that if you walk into a Subaru dealership they can (and will) offer you two other more powerful "sporty" cars instead of the BRZ. What will Toyota offer as an alternative sale?

LFA? RC350? Lexus doesn't count? Preregister to preorder a 2025 Supra?

Somebody looking for a BRZ may be convinced to spend the extra for a WRX but I highly doubt they would be doing the jump from an 86 to a LFA or RC350. Besides not all Toyota dealers have Lexus so we would have to drop the dealership number again.

Speaking of this the ratio or BRZ premium and BRZ Limited is also different. Sure the Toyota cost more, but good luck finding the BRZ premium they are made in less numbers because most people shop BRZ for limited. I'm sure they'll be official number somewhere to prove this with the older models. But so far all dealers I be spoken to, or even dealers posting here have said most the inventory that land first unless it's an order have mostly been Limited None PP. It's also marketing, these cars aren't really marketed but I'm sure, not many none enthusiast know BRZ has two trims. But they do know a lot about Toyota and that Toyota only has one sports car. So they buy it cause they're a Toyota outside their house and they have a corolla or a Camry as a daily etc. it shouldn't change too much, they'll be change and I think that's the overall number of twins will be less overall till Gen 2.

And herein lies the paradox. In order to sell greater volumes the car needs to meet more of the requirements of the general car buying public. In order to meet the requirements of the general car buying public many of the things that make the car attractive to the "enthusiast" have to be dumbed down, fancied up, or just plain neutered.

The Car Guy screams for more power but Joe/Jill Public are already scared the first time they accidently kick the rear out on a test drive. Car Guy doesn't care if they hear road noise if it keeps the weight down but Joe/Jill could not care less about weight as long as they do not have to hear those damned tires hum. Car Guy knows he is going to get crappy mileage if he pushes the car and is fine with that but Joe/Jill see a small car and expect it to be the same as a Prius no matter how they drive.

In order to sell the car at all there has to be compromise so that each group is still interested. The first gen had compromises that leaned toward the enthusiast (about 5% of the car buyers). If Toyota/Subaru decide they want to sell these cars in greater volumes then they are going to have to swing that compromise more in the direction of the general public (about 95% of the car buyers).

So... anybody hoping that they ramp up the production on these cars better understand what they are asking for.

Someone who went in looking for a BRZ and ends up buying a WRX never really wanted the BRZ to begin with...

(This from a guy who once went into a Toyota dealership to purchase an '85 SR5 Extended Cab 4x4 pickup and left with a Toyota MR2.)
