How does someone like that even get to that position in the first place? I’m sure you’d be able to tell they’re not fit for a managerial role before they even get there. It’s sad and pretty annoying when people don’t take work seriously. Especially an important position like that.

That's the weird thing, they don't. I usually get the 2lb bags from walgreens, but all 6 of my local stores just have an empty shelf.

So then walmart is usually really consistent about having the 5lb bags when walgreens is out, but my 4 local walmarts are out as well. I bought the last little $0.99 bags i could find months ago.

But amazon has it. Just something wrong about ordering candy online to me.

Two reasons.

His dad has been the production supervisor for 20+ years. His uncle has worked here for even longer.

Or company prez promoted him. So in essence he could not fail since it would reflect on his decision making. In fairness he did say he made a mistake and it shouldn't have gone that long, but he did not feel like he could demote him which is what should have happened a year ago. That was my solution anyway.

Figured. Why put his name out on someone who won’t do the job right? Even if it is family, just makes everybody look bad. I don’t get it

Just being human. He has a soft spot for the people that have been here for a long time and he has known for 20 years. I don't always agree with it but it is how it goes. I was the one that hired the guy

The dude did look like he could have a promising role in the first few years but he really is one of those guys that has to work under someone. Once cut loose on his own he didn't posses the personal motivation to try. I would try to teach him and help out but he didn't want to learn. I would call him out and he would brush it off because no one else would. He generally thought he was good at his job because none of the other department heads would call him out. They would say stupid shit like, "it's not worth my time." Which lead to his continued belief he was good at his job.

That is why I get told to be nice all the time

I mean I get it. Sounds like he had a golden opportunity and blew it. Guess some people just aren’t interested or motivated to move forward in a job. I’ve had to train newer guys at work and it’s great when someone is genuinely interested in learning the job. It helps a lot and makes work get done faster. But sometimes you get “those guys” who are the opposite. I tried my best to stick with them and show them exactly what to do because sometimes they just need someone to stay on their case, but you can tell when they won’t last long. Sad but that’s how it goes. Hope you guys find someone to come in and pick up the pieces.

I have found that, after over 50 years in various workplaces, that some people (regardless of their level) just NEED close supervision. If you are the type of person that does not need close supervision, sometimes it's hard to understand why some people do.

Yeah, I completely agree. I think if we could have demoted him and left him on hourly he would have been fine and worked here a long long time. At it's core I think it comes down to personal accountability but that is a whole 'nother rant.

Yep, this is why I don't like employee review ratings that include the term "Meets Expectations". As I explained to an HR VP once, if I'm doing my job as a manager all my employees "meet expectations" because I knew what each one is capable of whether they are a high performer or dead wood. Therefore, all my employees would have the same rating.

I just put out a help wanted ad a few days ago. Got about 10 replies. Several did not follow the simple instruction, to paste their resume into the email. Do those people deserve a chance?

Did the others "attach" their resume to an email or send you a letter?

I got this resume once that was all in lower case, no formatting. At his current job it had his job description as “i make bath bomb.”
