I guess most of us were expecting this level of reliability from a Toyota product.

The asteroid cometh.

Are those threads collected somewhere? I've only read a few of them, but l will just go ahead and assume that none of those cars are just being driven to church on Sunday. As others have said, it's a risk you take beating the shit out of a first-year car.

Here's the thread for talking about getting warranty work done with 24 votes last I checked, there are members who haven't posted for fear of being "blacklisted" so to speak.

Just another reason why Miatas are the #1 raced car in the world. Oh, and they have unmatched factory support. Toyota/Scion, where are you? Are you listening?
Totally agree, my local club track is full of miatas and no one has had a serious issue. BTW mazda is also great with their warranties, Mazda sponsors harris hill raceway and members get a discount for purchasing a mazda. If the car goes bad mazda knows you got the discount for your car from a Motorsports country club and they will still validate it no matter what. Now thats standing behind your product, now if only mazda would do a coupe version of the miata

Imagine if it was Subaru Raceway instead of Infineon/Sear Point/Sonoma...

*cough* Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

One of my local tracks, Willow Springs International Raceway, is Toyota sponsored. They have a ton of MKIV Supras, Celicas, Solaras, and tCs that they use...

We know it is happening, there are over 20 people on this forum who have reported it. But it seems isolated so far vs the total number of FT86 cars out there. But hey, my engine could seize up at some point and I could be the one fighting with dealers.

I think everyone would agree that Toyota and Subaru really should be investigating this and resolving the issue. But I can also see where this issue is being blown out of proportion. But that tends to happen on car forums. Hell, there are people here pursuing the Lemon Law because their high pressure fuel pump chirps.....
GT86 platform is back online as available to rent via rent a racer.

Guess they have not dropped the platform afterall and I stand corrected.

Someone actually asked them in person and were told too many people were bending them, nothing to do with engine failures.

LOL, well I feel even dumber for insinuating that DI was the reason they pulled the cars.

On to the next conspiracy theory!

I went to my Subaru dealer today to verify the ECU calibration on my Feb. 2013 manufactured BRZ.

"ZA1JA01C" This is the latest calibration code as of today. This is the same calibration code as listed in the South African Toyota 86 Technical service bulletin. The one for the improved software to prevent the injector collar damage.

Interesting... My car was manufactured after yours, so I may have the same calibration.

The plot thickens

Indeed, if this is correct, I think it's VERY big news. As my FR-S is also a February build, I'm feeling a bit more comfortable. Although I'm left shaking my head for a number of reasons. For example, why, if Toyota/Subaru realized this was an issue and mandated the change for all production cars from mid January forward, as mentioned in the Toyota S.A. TSB, haven't they issued a general recall or TSB for earlier build cars? Is it because they have so few cases of it happening that they didn't feel it necessary or didn't want the bad press? Or is it because they're still looking into the problem and there could be more to it? .

Either way, it might help if every FR-S/BRZ owner, during their next service visit, would bring a copy of the Toyota S.A. TSB with them, show it to their service adviser, and ask them to confirm what's the current calibration code of their car's ECU, and if it's ZA1JA01C. And if it isn't, if they would be willing to reflash their ECU to ZA1JA01C(* for MT cars), under warranty.

For reference:

The Subaru dealer is happy to check and see if the ECU calibration code is the latest and if it isn't it will be updated.
