Engine/Transmission noise

Hi All:

I've started to notice that my FRS has a really sharp gear change in the morning from 1st to 2nd. It literally jolts the entire car. My car is an automatic and I've searched that this is normal on the manual version of the car.... Would that issue carry over to the automatic? Should I regard this as normal?

Another issue is...

Tonight I drove without music and with the fan off and I noticed that upon acceleration the car whines like it has a supercharger. It's pretty loud at about 3000 RPM. Can anyone confirm this is normal? Does your automatic FRS have this as well? I've tried searching "Scion FRS Whine Accelerating" "SCION FRS AUTOMATIC WHINE".

On my previous car, a whine noise ment a failing CVT... would a whine noise be normal in this case?

It sounds like this...but this is a manual transmission with some mods...but i'm not sure if the mods make that noise?

Thanks!

Car is a 2013 FRS, Stock, Automatic.

Based on your two issues, I'd guess there's an issue with your AT fluid pump. Too much pressure will cause a hard shift and I've heard many trannys start the whine when the pump bearing is going out on it

Sounds serious

Update:

This morning it's not as loud.. but the whine is still there.

it could be that you have low transmission oil, I would check that! because I had the same Problem, then I refilled it with new Oil and annoying V-teck Sound went away!

What did you change your ATF fluid with? Did you go with OEM Toyota fluid?

I have the auto frs. I get the whine sound when accelerating up to 2500rpm.. Only when the car is cold though.

I have the whine as well, same car (10 series, AT). I can clearly hear it when accelerating hard on the freeway onramp while in 2nd and 3rd gear.

I have noticeable jolts in the morning from 1st to 2nd too. Goes away after driving a bit, I think it's just cold tranny fluid. I sure hope it's not a failing AT fluid pump or low AT fluid, I mean, I barely have 2k miles on this thing!

I am having this exact problem. I first thought it was normal because it being AT. My truck made a similar sound. But once under load (cold or hot, hard or easy acceleration.) it makes a very noticeable whining sound and is driving me nuts! Has there been any resolve to this issue?

Could it possibly be the rear diff that you are hearing?

No it's somewhere up front. You can slightly hear it when the car is in park or neutral and you rev it past 2800rpm. I did this when the car was cold and warm. Still the same sound

I haven't looked into it as other people have stated it's normal. I haven't had a transmission failure yet soooo I guess it's good for now?
