2017+ manual airbox/intake direct bolt-on for 2013-2016?
Will the larger airbox from the 2017+ manual cars bolt right into the older 13-16 manual models with no modifications?

No, you need the 2017 intake manifold as well.

Also updated is not exactly larger, more so that MY2017 airfilter has much more folds, thus larger filtering area.
What are your goals? I suspect that simple less resistive drop-in aftermarket airfilter should do. |

tomm.brz: are you completely sure? AFAIK rubber intake tube connecting new alu manifold and airbox also was listed among changed/"improved" parts, so i predict there to be not exact fitment problems. That's if diameter/flow/resistance is same .. if not, there also MAF scaling might be needed, just as with aftermarket intakes.
gpvecchi: erm. You have listed MY19 on your profile. And you are from EU. Wasn't it so, that EUDM twins didn't get improved header/intake/airfilterbox/FD unlike USDM MY2017 MT? |

the guy that answered before you is the friend I was referring to
so yes maf scaling is another story, of course it would require one, but he asked only if it fits and no, restyling cars in EU didn t get any update, they are identical to pre restyling, intake-wise he bought the intake from japan and it clearly fits since he said so |

Yes, Eu models didn't get the updated hi-power engine. The new airbox setup may fit non updated models, the new intake pipe has just different elbow radius, but same size.
My 2 cents: MAF should not be so different, as the sensor is in the same place, airbox has same exit pipe diameter and same housing for the sensor... It has just a greater volume, but air speed on the sensor should the same. But tomm.brz knows much more than me on this argument. |

Hmmm, if it fits, that's mod i'd consider. I'd wish to get slight performance gain for cheap, as drop-in airfilters bring, but not at cost of less filtering (which updated OE airfilters should do vs many aftermarket ones) due enough dust around in summer (especially if driven on gravel paved country roads).

not SO different: true
different: remember that even a change in the filter panel screws up with the maf scaling the maf only samples a very small portion of the air entering and even if every car of the same year has the same scaling, every car is different, and intakes are not perfect objects and air can always have a different (even if small) routing inside the intake tract You can totally switch to the new airbox and not scale the maf, the fuel trims will take care as good as they possibly can for it.. but it is always better to rescale |

I ran one on my MY13 for a few months. The MAF will need to be rescaled. The exit diameter is ~ 2mm larger and there are no air straighteners. I also compared it to my current TRD box where once again its MAF tubing is 2-2.5mm larger.

I am currently running a 2020 manual 86 and a 2015 manual FR-S. I originally had a TRD intake and exhaust on the FR-S but it was too noisy. I reinstalled the OEM exhaust and OEM intake with a K&N drop in air filter. Quieter and no difference in performance.
The actual filter in the 2020 is MUCH larger than the filter in the 2015, but I can verify that the 2015 with the drop in filter improves performance vs. its original OEM filter. Doug |

It sounds like the 2017 will physically bolt right in. So everything should be fine if you swap in the 2017 airbox, inlet tube, and intake manifold and get a tune.
It is not clear if you can use the 2017 airbox with the 2013-2016 intake manifold. |
